Liberty University, with 14,500 students, asks students and faculty to carry permitted concealed handguns on campus

Liberty University has 14,500 residential students and 2,500 full-time and part-time faculty.  This past week the university’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr., urged students and faculty during Friday’s convocation to carry concealed weapons on campus in the wake of Wednesday’s massacre in San Bernardino, California.  The university has a four-hour permit class that is offered by the campus police department.…

At least 40 School Districts in Ohio allow Teachers to Carry Permitted Concealed Handguns

WKRC-TV Channel 12 in Cincinnati reports:

. . . In Ohio, around 40 school districts now allow teachers with concealed carry licenses to carry their weapons in class. In upstate Ohio there is top level, extraordinary teacher training.

The teachers and administrators train side by side with local law enforcement and paramedics at John Benner’s Tactical Defense Institute.

All public schools and most all public charter schools are covered by state risk management.
They also come under government immunity statutes and caps.
Some public charters and all private do get private insurance.

With well over 700,000 concealed handgun permit holders in Texas, there is a good chance that someone next you in a grocery store or restaurant is carrying a concealed handgun. But some are only satisfied if others actually know that they are carrying.

Afghan police arming schoolteachers and university lecturers to protect against terrorist attacks

Since the Taliban massacred 150 people at a Peshawar school in December, the Afghan police are teaching teachers how to use guns to protect their students and themselves.  The CPRC has recently discussed the benefits of letting civilians rather than uniformed police or soldiers to defend targets.  From the New York Times:

Georgia getting rid of gun-free school zones

There are two new laws that went into effect in Georgia on July 1st (HB 60 and HB 826).

HB 826: A person who is licensed in accordance with Code Section 16-11-129 or issued a permit pursuant to Code Section 43-38-10 [may possess a concealed firearm] when he or she is within a school safety zone or on a bus or other transportation furnished by a public school or a person who is licensed in accordance with Code Section 16-11-129 or issued a permit pursuant to Code Section 43-38-10 when he or she has any firearm legally kept within a vehicle when such vehicle is parked within a school safety zone or is in transit through a designated school safety zone

HB 60: A person who is licensed in accordance with Code Section 16-11-129 or issued a permit pursuant to Code Section 43-38-10, [may possess a concealed firearm] when such person carries or picks up a student within a school safety zone, at a school function, or on a bus or other transportation furnished by a school or a person who is licensed in accordance with Code Section 16-11-129 or issued a permit pursuant to Code Section 43-38-10 when he or she has any weapon legally kept within a vehicle when such vehicle is parked within a school safety zone or is in transit through a designated school safety zone

The two bills are quite different.…
