With Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signing HB 102 into law on Thursday, February 18th, 2021, 2021, Montana now allows to open carry, carry concealed without a permit, or carry concealed with a CWP, in a bank, a restaurant with a liquor license, or a bar. Thirty-four states now also allow people to carry concealed in bars.…

…Montana looks set to become the 24th state that allows citizens to carry guns in the state Capitol. The bill passed the House and is now before the Senate, eliminates more gun-free zones than just the state Capitol.

…After the riot at the U.S. Capitol, gun control organizations warn that armed rioters at state capitols across the country on Inauguration Day pose a threat to our democracy. They claim the only solution is for states to ban guns on capitol grounds, thus extending their bans on carrying guns on public property generally.

With a Republican governor for the first time in 16 years, Montana looks set to finally eliminate gun-free zones. This follows the adoption of initiative LR-130 in November that prevents local governments from creating gun-free zones for people with concealed handgun permits.
…The Montana Legislature is poised to take up a number of gun-related bills this session, the first being House Bill 102 brought by Joliet Republican Rep.
UPDATE: It appears as if Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) was able to keep the Democrats from changing the rules on letting members of Congress carry guns on Capitol grounds.
