At Townhall: What Democrat Control of the Senate Means for Gun Control

3 Sep , 2020

Dr. John Lott and Professor emeritus Joe Olson at the Mitchell-Hamline School of Law have an op-ed at Townhall.com.

Last week, President Trump claimed the election will determine the future of private gun ownership in the United States. On Saturday, the NRA tweeted out that a Biden win “will destroy our Second Amendment.”

At Newsweek: New York Abuses the Legal System to Target The NRA

7 Aug , 2020

Dr. John Lott has a new op-ed piece at Newsweek.

Gun rights have never been more at stake than in this November’s election, and Democrat politicians are now attempting to remove the NRA from the debate. At the very least, they want to run up the NRA’s legal bills so that it won’t have funds left over for political campaigns.

At National Review: Limiting Gun Rights While Defunding Police Is a Recipe for Disaster

4 Aug , 2020

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at National Review.

For years, gun-control advocates told people that it is the job of police to protect them. But now, the same people who want to ban gun ownership also want to defund and disarm the police, replacing them with social workers who won’t do anything to stop violent crime.

At the Washington Times: How the liberal media, with Michael Bloomberg’s help, are biased against guns

2 Aug , 2020

Dr. John Lott has a piece at the Washington Times on how Michael Bloomberg biases the discussion about guns.

Would Scientific American ever pay an NRA employee to write news articles about gun control? Never. But they and many other media outlets have no problem using articles written by people who work for Michael Bloomberg’s gun control organizations.

At Real Clear Politics: News Outlets Turn a Blind Eye on The Trace’s Anti-Gun Bent

22 Jul , 2020

Dr. John Lott has a new op-ed at Real Clear Politics.

NPR, Politico, Time, and Scientific American are unlikely ever to pay an NRA employee to write news articles about gun control. But they have no problem hiring people who work for The Trace, a Michael Bloomberg-funded gun control organization. Even in the very hypothetical case that these publications did use an NRA-influenced article, they would undoubtedly include a disclaimer warning readers of the possible bias.

At Real Clear Politics: Why the New York Times Capitulated

9 Jun , 2020

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at Real Clear Politics on how what happened to Senator Tom Cotton at the New York Times is actually an all too common story.

On Sunday, New York Times opinion editor James Bennet resigned after daring to publish an opinion column by Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), who argued for using the military to help quell the riots that arose from George Floyd’s murder.

At the Washington Times: Using the COVID-19 pandemic to justify a gun ban

27 Apr , 2020

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at the Washington Times on the claims being made by gun control advocates during the Coronavirus.

Despite all the claims that gun control organizations only want “reasonable” gun control laws, the coronavirus pandemic has revealed that they do want to ban guns. Gun control advocates somehow want to claim that closing down gun stores doesn’t infringe on people’s ability to own guns for self-defense.

Bloomberg’s Everytown just makes up gun facts

16 Oct , 2019

Let us help out Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown. For a group that claims to know a lot about guns, they apparently aren’t familiar with one of the best selling books ever from the University of Chicago Press: “More Guns, Less Crime.” There is also information from the National Crime Victimization Survey. Here are a couple of discussions from that book.…

At Fox News: Media exaggerate impact of US-Mexico border closure. UPDATE: Everytown attacks

4 Apr , 2019

Dr. John Lott’s newest op-ed discusses the new media’s grossly exaggerated costs from closing the U.S.-Mexico border. He also goes through some of our research regarding the costs of illegal aliens. (Not surprisingly, Everytown’s paid PR secretary Adam Sege keeps doing his job and attacks me again because of this piece. But in a typical Media Matters type attack, a group Everytown works closely with, his approach and the entire Everytown group never engage in substance.…

Bloomberg’s Everytown former Research Director hired by New York Times to cover gun control issues

20 Nov , 2018

Bloomberg’s Everytown former Research Director, Ted Alcorn, is now covering public health & safety reporting, obviously including gun control issues, for the New York Times. Does the New York Times think that hiring an activist like this helps with people’s impression that they have a lot of bias on gun control issues?…
