The Racial and Gender Demographics of Mass Public Shooters: Middle Eastern people, Asians, Blacks, and American Indians overrepresented. Hispanics most underrepresented

“the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them.” — CNN’s Don Lemon, October 30, 2018

Few mass public killers have obvious political or religious reasons for doing their shootings, vehicle attacks, or bombings

“right-wing terrorism has become far more commonplace — and, since 9/11, far more deadly — than Islamist terrorism in America” — Max Boot, Washington Post, October 28, 2018.

New FBI report claims that 8% of active shooter attacks during 2014-17 were stopped or mitigated by concealed handgun permit holders, but misses at least half the cases.

Originally posted on May 31, 2018. With the media giving news coverage to a study based on this politically biased data, it seemed useful to again point out the flaws in the FBI’s data.

Original Post: The FBI has now released its third report on active shooters.  The first report covered 2000-2013, and we found 20 missing cases where at least 2 people had been killed. …

What are the religious views of mass public shooters?

From January 1998 to the present, 69 killers have committed 66 mass public shootings in the US.  Each of these attacks claimed four or more lives.  Of the attackers, four have been identified as Christians, with just three clearly being regular churchgoers.  With 70% of Americans identifying themselves as Christians and over 33% going to church at least once a week, those numbers fall far short of what one might expect.…

With the push to ban guns for those under 21 years of age, what share of Mass Public Shootings are done by those under age 21?

With the push by gun control advocates to ban those under age 21 from owning guns because of the shooting in Parkland, Florida, we decided to examine more closely the ages of mass public shooters over the last twenty years.  The current discussion is obviously motivated because the Parkland killer was 19 years old when he committed his crimes and that motivated Florida to just increase the age that people could obtain any type of gun to 21-years-old.  …
