ABC Channel KGO: In San Francisco’s Tenderloin last month, Philip Deshaun Brunson, a 50-year-old Detroit man with a criminal record, allegedly paid homeless individuals $5 each to forge signatures for “Building a Better California.” Signature gathers themselves were being paid $15 for each signature. A viral video captured Brunson instructing people to use neat handwriting before confronting ABC7 reporter Dan Noyes. The campaign says it rejected all of Brunson’s submissions and maintains a zero-tolerance policy for fraud. State officials and the San Francisco District Attorney are now investigating the alleged felony-level forgery, raising concerns about potential threats to California’s ballot process, in which counties manually verify signatures against voter rolls.
Democrats spent $40 per vote ($64 million, possibly about $70 million) for the 1.604 million votes for the April 21, 2026 vote on the redistricting referendum. If they spend $40 per possibly vote (possibly $44), how much would they spend for a certain vote? If politicians are willing to pay for people to sign petitions, are they willing to pay people to vote? How much are political parties willing to bribe people to provide a certain vote?
