13 D.C. officers placed on leave in crime statistics investigation

We previously posted how the D.C. Police Union said that Mayor Bowser’s claim that the Crime-data Manipulation is isolated to one precinct is “Preposterous.” It turns out that Trump was Justified in auditing the D.C. Crime Data. Not sure anyone should believe DC’s crime numbers before Trump’s federalization of the district’s law enforcement last year. It means the drop in violent crime by Trump was actually greater than previously reported.

Everyone of the 13 involved the rank of captain or higher. Captains often serve as the “Sector Commander” within one of the MPD’s seven police districts.  The officers included:

Assistant Chiefs: High-ranking leaders including LaShay Makal and Andre Wright.
Commanders: District leaders such as Tatjana Savoy (2nd District) and Michael Pulliam (former 3rd District).
Captains: Multiple captains are reportedly among those served with termination papers. It looks like there are at least three captains, but the exact number isn’t known.
Lieutenants: The D.C. Police Union has specifically accused officials at the rank of lieutenant and above of ordering the manipulation of crime reports

Washington interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said Tuesday that 13 officers have been placed on administrative leave in connection with an internal investigation into how the department keeps crime statistics, a subject that also has been looked into by Congress and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Carroll said the officers were placed on administrative leave on Monday following an investigation that began earlier this year after a referral from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. . . .
