Are there drawbacks to locking up your guns? In this case, even the bad guys lock up their guns. NBC’s Law & Order Organized Crime has a corrupt prison guard who is being arrested (Season 3, Episode 21, May 11, 2023). The guard attempts to reach his gun to escape the police, but he cannot quickly access it because it is locked up. Did the writers think that this episode was acceptable because it was a bad guy who was stopped from obtaining the gun? Possibly, they think viewers will think that it was “good” the gun was locked up. But it still illustrates that locking up guns makes them so they can’t be used for self-defense.
