The number of women holding concealed carry permits has increased twice as fast as the number of men with permits, according to the Crime Prevention Research Center’s 2016 report.
“People want to be safe. And it’s easier to carry a firearm than it is to carry a cop. That’s something that law-abiding gun owners have said for a long time,” Loesch commented. “People want to be able to protect themselves and their families. It’s the number one reason why I carry a firearm concealed.”
The number of concealed carry permits in the U.S. is now over 15 million as of the end of last year. The increase between May, 2016 and May, 2017 turned out to be the largest one year increase ever.
The CPRC remarked that permit holders tend to be “extremely law-abiding.” . . . .

CHP holders are more law-abiding than previously believed. Per Dr. John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center, CHP holders are more law-abiding than police officers. By comparing crime reports and revocations of CHP permits in Florida and Texas, he found that permit holders are less likely to commit crimes than police officers. Lott found similar results across the country. Given this, Warner is either obfuscating the facts, or is eager to have billionaire gun control activist Michael Bloomberg continue to line his coffers with donor money. . . .

In fact, Crime Prevention Research Center’s John Lott reveals that only one professor, Jacob Dorman, resigned in Kansas–from the University of Kansas (KU). Two professors resigned from the University of Texas (UT).
Writing in the Hill, Lott explains how small a percentage three resigning, anti-campus carry professors represent. For example, Dorman was “one out of 2,600 faculty members” at KU. Thus, to date, KU has lost 1/2600 of its faculty due to campus carry.
This is not what Dorman predicted when he fled. Instead, he predicted that campus carry would be “driving off faculty members.”. . .
Dorman took his stand, and Lott reports that two professors with worldviews similar to Dorman’s took their stand at UT. There are 20,322 faculty members in the UT system, which means the UT system lost 2/20,322 of its faculty over campus carry.
Lott states that reports of two departures from UT are actually somewhat exaggerated because “one of [the] two, a retired professor, would likely have visited at other schools anyway after his retirement.” . . .

But there is empirical evidence to counter this. For example, in Florida–which has become the proving ground for Stand Your Ground and so many other pro-Second Amendment laws–the reality is that Stand Your Ground has not played into the racial stereotypes of gun control advocates around the country; it has not given white gun owners an advantage over minorities. In fact, John Lott’s latest book, The War On Guns: Arming Yourself Against Gun Control Lies, shows that Stand Your Ground has actually benefited black people more than whites.
Lott writes, “From 2005 through October 1, 2014, blacks made up 16.7 percent of Florida’s population and 34 percent of the defendants who invoked Stand Your Ground.” Moreover, “Black defendants who invoke this statute are actually acquitted four percentage points more frequently than white who use this very same defense.” . . .

Dr. John R. Lott Jr., the founder and president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, looked into the data behind the VPC’s claims and found all kinds of problems. Lott is an economist who is most known for his book More Guns, Less Crime. He is a statistician and a researcher with an expertise in the issues related to guns. He found that in the VPC’s numbers for Michigan, for example, that when they cite state-police reports on permit holders indicating that 185 died from suicide from 2007 through 2012 that “some alarm bells should have gone off” as “Michigan suicides supposedly making up 29 percent of all 636 deaths nationwide the VPC attributed to permitted concealed handguns.”
propaganda.Also, the Michigan State Police listing of suicides doesn’t list specific causes of death, so the VPC just assumed guns were used in all of these instances. “Interestingly,” says Lott, “the suicide rate among permit holders in Michigan in 2010 (13.3 per 100,000 permit holders) is lower than the rate in the general adult population (16.30).”
Lott even says the VPC “can’t add simple numbers up correctly.” Though the VPC claims 20 pending cases and 14 convictions in Michigan, the Michigan State Police report a total of 14 and 11 cases respectively. Also, as it can take years for a murder case to go to trial, it is likely that some of the cases they cite actually occurred before 2007. And then the VPC “actually adds the ‘pending’ and ‘conviction’ numbers together,” says Lott.
And that’s just considering how the VPC used (or misused) the Michigan numbers to come up with their false national statistics. . . .

In 2015, when California became the first state in at least 40 years to pass a law restricting concealed carry on school grounds, no one could point to a single incident in California. That hasn’t changed in the last two years.”
Lott continued that, unfortunately, gun-free zones, like what those in California are seeking, don’t make places “safe.”
