Here are (now) twelve more defensive gun uses by concealed handgun permit holders from across the country.

Chicago, Illinois, (8200 block of South Ingleside, Chicago) December 30, 2016, Chicago Sun-Times

A man with a concealed-carry license fatally shot a would-be robber in Chatham Friday afternoon, sources said.

The 23-year-old man was walking in the 8200 block of South Ingleside about 1:54 p.m. when another male pulled out a gun and tried to rob him, according to police.

A fight broke out and the 23-year-old, who was licensed to carry a firearm, pulled out his own gun and shot the would-be robber in the head, killing him, sources said. . . .

A second attempted robber ran away after his companion was shot, sources said.


Detroit, Michigan (23540 W Seven Mile Rd, Detroit, MI 48219), December 23, 2016

Detroit police say a CPL holder shot and wounded two men who tried to carjack him at a gas station in northwest Detroit early Friday morning.

According to police, it happened just after midnight in the area of 7 Mile Rd. and Shiawassee at the Valero gas station.

We’re told the victim shot the 20-year-old man and his 21-year-old accomplice, sending them to the hospital. The 20-year-old is listed in serious condition while the 21-year-old is in stable condition. . . .


Milwaukee, Wisconsin, December 28, 2016 (Fox 6)

Police say their preliminary investigation reveals Thomas was attempting to commit a robbery at the time of the shooting and was shot by the 36-year-old Milwaukee man who was being robbed — who was out walking his dog on Tuesday night.  That man is being questioned by investigators. He has not been arrested, and police say this case will be reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.

The man has a concealed carry permit.

Officials also say Thomas’ co-actor, an 18-year-old Milwaukee man, was also shot during the altercation. He apparently went to the neighborhood near 24th and Ruby after the incident — and has since been taken into custody. . . .


Atlanta, Georgia, December 29, 2016 (CBS Channel 46) — video discusses how a female passenger in a white Porsche used her concealed handgun to protect the man that she was with from being beaten in a carjacking.

Atlanta Police said they’re looking into why the driver of a Hummer was shot after he struck multiple vehicles in the Buckhead area.

Police said they received the call about the vehicle being involved in several hit-and-run wrecks in the Buckhead area.

They said the vehicle drove into Midtown, and the driver tried to leave the vehicle and tried to carjack another driver in a white Porsche.

The driver of the Porsche and the driver of the Hummer were involved in a fight before someone in the Porsche shot him. Police said, at the same time, an officer also stunned him with a Tazer. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. . . .


Aventura, Florida, December 20, 2016.  In this case, the Uber driver apparently saved his life by having a permitted, but Uber may fire him because Uber drivers are banned from carrying a gun.

According to police, Anderson was taking a passenger to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport shortly before 6 a.m. when he was cut off by a gray Dodge Caravan in the 3300 block of Northeast 191st Street.

Police said Johnson, who was armed, got out of the driver’s side of the minivan and approached Anderson, demanding his personal items.

Anderson, who is licensed to carry a firearm, fired four shots at Johnson, police said. . . .

Anderson feels what he did was necessary to save his life.  From the Sun-Sentinel:

“Honestly, it doesn’t matter if I lose the job,” Anderson said Monday in a phone interview. “I have to protect my life. That’s all I did.”

Anderson said officials of the ride-hailing service contacted him, but he declined to say whether he is still employed. “That’s confidential,” he said. . . .


Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, December 23, 2016 (WTAE, Pittsburgh Channel 4)

. . . The shooting was reported around 8 a.m. . . .

Police said a man with a gun walked into Subway in the 2700 block of East Carson Street during breakfast hours and demanded money. The clerk, who police said has a concealed carry permit, opened fire on him.

The worker “apparently felt threatened for him and the other employee in the store and shot the actor at least once,” Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said.

Police said the gunman fled through a window that was broken during the shooting and was dropped off at Allegheny General Hospital in a private vehicle. . . .


Antioch, Tennessee, December 29, 2016 (WKRN)

An attempted carjacking victim scared off a group of people who tried to steal his car in Antioch early Thursday morning.

It happened on Lori Drive around 1 a.m.

Metro police told News 2 the man said he was in his car when three white men with bandanas over their faces approached him and attempted to open the car door.

The man fired his legally-owned weapon in self-defense and the three men ran away, according to police. One of the suspects fired a shot as the group was fleeing the scene. . . .


Glendale, Arizona, December 21, 2016 (Phoenix, Arizona ABC Channel 15)

Police are asking for the public’s help to track down a man suspected of opening fire inside a West Valley Walmart earlier this month.

Glendale officers responded to the store, located near 95th Avenue and Camelback Road just after 11 a.m. on December 7 after reports that two people had been shot.

Two victims were found with non-life threatening gunshot wounds and transported to a nearby hospital.

According to police, the victims initially had contact with the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Almalik Ward, in the parking lot. Ward reportedly followed the men into the store and confronted them.

Police said Ward fired at the victims, and one of the men returned fire with his own gun. . . .

“He had a knife coming toward me. So I shot him with my gun in the stomach.”. . .

About nine hours later, 19-year-old Mohamud Mohamed died of the gunshot wound at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.

Ali Mohamed, who has a gun permit, turned over his gun to investigators.

On the phone he told a dispatcher, “I feared for my life in my own home.” . . .


Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 19, 2016 (Philadelphia, CBS KYW Channel 3)

Police say a 51-year-old woman reported that a male was trying to block her from the entrance into the Save-A-Lot. Police say the woman called for store security and 911 for help.

The victim told police that after several verbal confrontations, the male charged at her with a large stick and attempted to strike her.

She said he also threw hot coffee at her.

Police say the woman then drew her revolver and fired two shots at the male. Authorities believe the first shot ricocheted from the ground and struck the security guard in his shin.

The male then fled the scene with the woman’s purse and cell phone, police say. . . .


Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Saturday, December 17, 2016 (Philadelphia, ABC Channel 3)

A pizza delivery driver shot a would-be robber during an attempted holdup in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened in the 1400 block of Wellington Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the driver was approached by a 19-year-old man, who tried to rob him.

The delivery driver shot the man twice. . . .


North Las Vegas, Nevada, December 10, 2016 (delivery man shot a man who was robbing this 7-11 store)

On Thursday, a man was shot and killed at about 3:30 a.m. while attempting an armed robbery at the same store. He has not been identified.

North Las Vegas police responded to the store because a silent hold-up alarm was activated. Police said an armed person, who was working in the store but is not a 7-Eleven employee, fatally shot the man.

Police spokeswoman Ann Cavaricci said the person realized the man was attempting an armed robbery of the store before pulling out a gun and shooting him. It was not immediately clear how many times the man was shot. He died at University Medical Center. . . .
