An Example from CBS of Media Bias regarding Concealed Handgun Permits

14 Jan , 2018   Video

Here is a very short clip of Hawaii Five-O trying to provide an example of a concealed handgun permit holder representing a danger to others.  Other parts of the program show the permit holder as a real jerk and eventually stealing a gun from a police officer and shooting someone.

Despite the impression this show provides, some information on how extremely law-abiding permit holders are is available here and here.…

At The Hill: “The AP provides another example of how media pushes an anti-gun agenda”

3 Dec , 2017

Dr. John Lott had a piece in today’s The Hill about media bias in Associated Press.  One of the problems that one always has in showing media bias is knowing exactly what the author knew in putting the piece together.  Was the author just uninformed or were they biased?  In this case, one can see what the AP took from two different news stories and that while the original stories were fairly balanced, what went into the final AP piece took quotes from only one side of the debate.  …

CPRC ad on Twitter not approved because of “inappropriate language”

6 Nov , 2017

Yesterday, we put up a post on the CPRC website noting that a law-abiding citizen had stopped the mass public shooting at the Texas church.  We were putting this out hours before the national media was picking up on this important story.  Dr. Lott had put this up on his Twitter feed and tried to get some more attention for it by paying for a Twitter Ad campaign.  …

22 Oct , 2017

The former CEO of National Public Radio Ken Stern has a piece at the New York Post on the media’s bias on guns.  From the NY Post:

Washington Times news article discusses the different definitions of mass shootings

11 Oct , 2017

Bradford Richardson at the Washington Times had a long article based on an interview that he had with Dr. John Lott (words in bold were not in the original article).  The CPRC has made these points before. The article in the Washington Times is as follows:

. . . In the aftermath of the Las Vegas massacre, left-leaning media outlets have been playing fast and loose with the data on mass shootings to inflate their number and suggest that white men make up a disproportionate share of the perpetrators.

2 Oct , 2017

Here are Hayley Geftman-Gold’s two tweets that got her in trouble:

“If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing.”

“I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”

From Fox News:

CBS has parted ways with one of the company’s top lawyers after she said she is “not even sympathetic” to victims of the Las Vegas shooting because “country music fans often are Republican,” when discussing the tragic mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas late Sunday night.

Violence Policy Center keeps using using Justifiable Homicide data to make false claims about defensive gun use

24 Sep , 2017

It has become an annual rite with the Violence Policy Center to release a report claiming, “Firearms 100 times more likely to kill women than protect them.” Last year, the New York Times and Vice carried the claims.  This year, it made headlines at The Nation and local media outlets around the country (e.g.,…

Responding to some of the attacks on Dr. Lott after his testimony to the President’s Advisory Commission on Election Integrity

14 Sep , 2017

Over the last few days, there have been a lot of attacks on Dr. Lott research after his testimony to the President’s Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.  One of the common lines of attack has been that he testified in an area where he is not an expert.

The Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham claims:

“But Lott also occasionally branches out into other topics.
