More misinformation from Entertainment TV: CBS’s FBI Most Wanted falsely claims most mass public shooter use AR-15-style guns

Dec 1, 2022 | Media Bias

In this segment of CBS’s FBI Most Wanted, the FBI agents are surprised that a handgun was used in a mass public shooting, with one of the agents claiming that most mass public shooters use AR-15 style semi-automatics (Season 4 Episode 7, Nov 22, 2022). Of the 88 mass public shootings from 1998 through May 15, 2022, only 14% of mass public shootings are done solely with a rifle. Only 29% even involve a rifle or a rifle in combination with some other type of gun. Given the show’s surprise about the use of handguns, 58% of the attacks use only handguns. The data to check this out is available here.
