Gun Control Activists Once Again Argue for Disarming the Police, From Brady to Giffords to Moms Demand to The Trace

Mar 5, 2026 | Gun Control Advocates, Police

On January 8th, Brady United’s president Kris Brown put out a tweet:

We don’t know the details behind the shootings of 2 people by a Border Patrol agent in Portland.

But I know one thing for certain: whether in the hands of federal officers or everyday Americans, guns do not make us safer.

Yet Trump is reshaping our country based on this lie.

@KrisB_Brown, Thu Jan 08 2026

Gun control advocates have long promoted the idea that law enforcement shouldn’t be armed. Kris Brown’s reaction to the January 8 shooting in Portland illustrates how biased their view is. On that day, federal agents confronted two Venezuelan nationals who had entered the United States illegally in 2022 and 2023 and who were allegedly associated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. When agents identified themselves, the driver allegedly tried to flee and used the vehicle to attempt to run over the agents, prompting an agent to fire in self-defense.

As we have posted before, this has been a constant drumbeat by Gun control advocates such as Gabby Giffords (“Police violence is gun violence“), Moms Demand Action’s Shannon Watts (“police violence is gun violence”), and Michael Bloomberg’s The Trace.

While Kris Brown deleted the tweet shown above, her organization still had this post up as of March 6th, 2026.
