UPDATED: New Orleans terror attack: ISIS Flag in Truck, At Least 14 Murdered, Dozens Injured, Had Multiple IEDs, FBI looking for other suspects in New Orleans terror attack, Killer was ‘not solely responsible’

Jan 1, 2025 | Mass Public Killings non-shootings, terror

UPDATE: The number murdered has now reached 14.

Original Post: Yet another mass murder with a vehicle. It just makes it clear that terrorists can murder people in many different ways. Besides using the truck, the murderer reportedly made multiple IEDs. The attacker had ‘remote detonator‘ for explosives in French Quarter.

.

It is very reminiscent of the October 31, 2017, terrorist attack in New York City. Sayfullo Habibullaevich Saipov also drove a rented pickup truck with an ISIS flag into a group of people — cyclists and runners on a bike lane and pedestrian walkway in Lower Manhattan. He murdered eight people and injured 11 others.

.

New Year’s celebrations turned to tragedy in New Orleans after a driver rammed a truck into the crowd at the city’s iconic Bourbon Street, killing at least ten and injuring 35 others.

.

The killer has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar. He was killed in a firefight that injured two police officers.

.

Jabbar grew up in Texas and is believed to have served in the military for ten years . . .

.

Jabbar drove an EV pickup truck with a black Islamic caliphate flag on the back through the barricades on the corner of Bourbon and Canal street. . . .

Emily Crane and David Spector, “New Orleans terror attack live updates: FBI looking for other suspects in New Orleans terror attack, killer was ‘not solely responsible’,” New York Post, January 1, 2025.

.

New Orleans attacker Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone and planted “remote detonator” explosives inside coolers in two nearby locations in the French Quarter, just a few hours before he drove a pickup truck at a high rate of speed into a crowd of people celebrating New Year’s on Bourbon Street . . .

Jamie Joseph, “New Orleans attacker had ‘remote detonator’ for explosives in French Quarter, Biden says,” Fox New, January 2, 2025.

.

A potential IED was in the truck, and other potential IEDs were located in the French Quarter, the FBI said.

Staff, “Live updates: FBI believes driver in New Orleans attack wasn’t ‘solely responsible’, IEDs found in vehicle,” NBC News, January 1, 2025.
