Newly elected state Rep. Patrick Neville is making a bit of a splash.  From the Denver Post (picture also from Post):

A student who survived the Columbine High School massacre has introduced a bill that would allow anyone with a concealed weapons permit the right to conceal and carry firearms in public schools.

Rep. Patrick Neville, R-Castle Rock, was a student at Columbine in 1999 in Jefferson County when two seniors went on a rampage, killing 12 fellow students and a teacher.

“This bill will allow honest law-abiding citizens to carry a concealed firearm for protection if they choose to,” Neville said in a news release. “But most importantly, it will give them the right to be equipped to defend our children from the most dangerous situations.”

He is sponsoring the bill with his father, Sen. Tim Neville, R-Littleton. . . .

This past April, the Quinnipiac University Poll found:

Voters support 50 – 45 percent allowing teachers and school officials to carry guns on school grounds. Men support the measure 59 – 38 percent while women are opposed 51 – 42 percent. . . .

UPDATE: On February 6th, the new Texas Lt Gov Dan Patrick has asked that the state senate fast track the the campus carry bill.

Legislation to allow staff carry concealed handguns on college campus was introduced in Arkansas.

    Gun free zones only apply to law-abiding citizens same as drug free zones. Criminals couldn’t care less about xxxx-free zones, which is one of the reasons they are criminals. I applaud this effort.

    There is a reason virtually all mass shootings occur in places like schools, or other “gun free zones.” It is because the criminal knows he is unlikely to face armed opposition.

    Anti-gun types ask the question, “Do you want a gunfight?” The answer is no, nobody wants a gunfight, but a gunfight is vastly preferrable to a massacre.
