Record 2.1 Million NICS Background Conducted in June 2020

Jul 2, 2020 | Featured

A record number of NICS background checks for purchasing guns was conducted in June. No previous June has come close, and there are only three previous months with more background checks (March, 2020; December, 2015; and December, 2012). Between 2015 and 2019, the total number of NICS checks for gun purchases ranged from 825,418 to 1,076,829, so the 2.1 million this past June almost exactly doubles the previous June high. December months have traditionally been big sales months as people are giving gifts for Christmas. Presumably the inability of police to protect people has something to do with this increase.
