In Episode 12 of Season 4, Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) asks Will (Nick Gehlfuss) to move back in with her. But she has a condition: he must get rid of his gun. His handgun has been a major, long-standing problem between them, and this time Will finally relents. But he changes his mind upon entering the police station, and turns around to put the gun in his car.
Now, in Episode 13, Season 4, Will’s gun is stolen and used to shoot a young man, seriously injuring him.
The lesson is clear: If Will had only listened to Natalie and gotten rid of the dangerous gun, this young man would never have been shot. But criminals in Chicago don’t need to steal guns from law-abiding citizens. They obtain guns from drug gangs about as easily as they obtain drugs from those very same gangs.
Viewers see that if only Will’s gun had been destroyed, the young man’s life would have been saved. But the show doesn’t consider the net effect of gun ownership. It provides no balance in showing how guns protect people from harm.
We’re not going to see an episode where Natalie begs Will to get rid of his gun, and they are left defenseless to a brutal robbery.

I also see the message that in one of the highest gun control cities in the the USA, a doctor can have a gun; must be because he can afford to go through the process and it is OK for him to be able to defend his life because he is more valuable than the peons he “serves”
