Michael Bloomberg “has approved a plan to pour at least $80 million into the 2018 election” to give Democrats control of the US House of Representatives. Note this doesn’t include money Bloomberg is putting in pushing gun control issues.
This reminds us of Robert Reich’s recent claims about NRA campaign spending: “The National Rifle Association is a special interest group with a stranglehold on the Republican Party. In 2016, the group spent a record $55 million on elections. Their real goal is to protect a few big gun manufacturers who want to enlarge their profits.” See point #5 available here for our response as to why this was misleading and how it ignores the even more massive amounts of money that Bloomberg has already been pouring into elections.
And the vasy sums of money he is pouring into these elections don’t violate election laws in some way? If the Koch brothers were committing this level of funding to elections, dems would be screaming for investigations.
I feel so strongly about this that I had some bumper stickers made up: DEFUND POLITICS . The only way we’ll get our country back from the corrupt politicians (on both sides) is to take the money out of it.
