This pastor announced that she got the idea of letting guns into her church several years ago, but is only putting it into action now because of the church shooting in Charleston. Her gun was purchased through donations. It may not make the most sense for this pastor to announce that she will be keeping the gun at her pulpit, but given that members of her congregation will also carrying concealed handguns laws, it is probably safe. The Herald has this story about the Charlotte, North Carolina church:
The Rev. Brenda Stevenson is the lead pastor of New Outreach Christian Church in North Charlotte. . . . .
The pastor purchased a firearm and plans to keep it near the pulpit once she’s received a concealed-carry permit.
“We just want to make sure that people can come to church and serve God without being afraid,” Stevenson said. . . .

Meanwhile gun control advocates are outraged that a Louisiana Sheriff is urging women to be able to defend themselves by getting concealed handgun permits. Channel WAFB reports:
“Get your concealed weapons permit. Ladies, learn how to safely handle a weapon, learn how to safely store a weapon, and when you’re in a situation like this shoot him in your back yard before he gets in your house. Drop him,” said Wiley. . . . .
Splendid idea, but the Devil is in the details.
Does she plan to secure the church sanctuary, now that she has announced there will be a loaded firearm stored there?
Has she made the commitment to become and remain proficient in the use of that firearm, or will be simply have a church-full of “Fudds?”
