Police say a car theft goes awry when the owner of the car spots the thief take off, and jumps on the hood of the car.

The owner of Fast Trac car wash showed us surveillance of the ordeal. The video shows a bystander watching the car drive off with the woman on the hood; he takes out his gun, and chases it.

Police tell FOX 5 that man was a city of Smyrna employee who happened to be at the car wash; officers say he fired at the suspect as he was about to drive out of the business and onto Highlands Parkway. The suspect was shot in the shoulder, officers say. . . .
