“Regarding proposals that can reduce mass public shootings, while public health researchers give a score of at least 5.5 on a 1 to 10 scale for two types of gun control regulations (gun and ammunition bans as well as universal background checks), criminologists and economists only give that high of a score to just one type of gun regulation (eliminating gun-free zones).

John R. Lott Jr., an economist and author of the book “More Guns, Less Crime,” said in an interview that Northwell’s lineup “is pretty one-sided.” 

Lott pointed to a just-published article he co-authored in the libertarian Cato Institute’s Regulation magazine, arguing that “public health researchers are much more supportive of gun control” — red-flag laws, bans on certain weapons or magazines, universal background checks, licensing and registration — “than are either criminologists or economists.”

In another book, “The War on Guns: Arming Yourself Against Gun Control Lies, he wrote of the public-health approach: “There is no mention that widespread gun ownership deters criminals from breaking into homes.

Mexican Elementary School Shooting: Seven shot, one murdered by 11-year-old

On January 10th, an 11-year-old last shot seven people and then committed suicide at the Cervantes de Torreón elementary school in Torreón, Mexico.

Ramos shot dead María Medina, a 50-year-old English teacher, last Friday at Miguel Cervantes School in Torreón, Coahuila. The sixth-grader then shot five students and 40-year-old gym teacher Aldo Omar Saldivar, all of whom survived.
