Between the end of August and the November election in 2014, the NRA spent $14.7 million.  Over the entire election cycle they spent $28.2 million.  By contrast, in just two state senate races in Virginia during just the last couple weeks before the election this year, Bloomberg’s Everytown alone spent a total of over $2.2 million.  This represents truly massive amounts of money in a short period of time for state Senate races.  To get some perspective, there are 40 seats in the Virginia state Senate.  Yet, despite Republicans having to defend more open seats than Democrats, Bloomberg and the Democrats were unable to flip control of the Virginia state Senate to Democrats.
