Ezra Levant: You know, Dr. John Lott is a US scholar who is, and it’s interesting to, to talk to him because he doesn’t make the argument from a moral point of view or from a constitutional point of view. He never argues that we have these God-given rights. Like, he doesn’t talk that way. He’s actually purely pragmatic. Uh, I mean, I I’m sure he does believe in the morality of owning firearms and the right to self-defense, but all of his papers, all of his books, I mean, one of his books is called More Guns, Less Crime. And one of his basic thesis, especially when it comes to mass shootings, is a bad guy with a gun is only stopped when a good guy with a gun shows up. because yeah, being disarmed and I mean really you have to wait for the shooter to run out of bullets or someone’s got to stop him and you’re probably not going to stop him unless you yourself have a firearm. And that’s a terrifying thing to think about and to talk about but it also happens to be true. God forbid, this shooter would have gotten in the synagogue, he would not have been stopped until later he left and police accosted him.
