“We want safety, not lawlessness. We believe Americans deserve secure borders, safe communities, honest government, and an orderly immigration system that protects the country, strengthens the economy, and treats people with dignity. We believe America remains indispensable to global stability, democratic values, international security, and strong alliances. In a dangerous and uncertain world, America must lead with strength, purpose, and partnership.”
We previously highlighted the growing number of Democrat politicians calling for defunding the police, abolishing prisons, abolishing ICE, and abolishing national borders. In an open letter, 15 Democrat congressmen declared: “We are capitalist, not socialist,” “We want safety, not lawlessness,” “We are responsible, not reckless,” “We believe government should solve problems, not create them,” “We are mainstream, not extreme,” and “We are proud, not ashamed of America.” Taken together, however, the vast majority of Democrats rejected these statements as too controversial. We find the stand “We want safety, not lawlessness” relevant to the work we do here.
Organizers of the letter, which had been released earlier this month, unveiled the first 15 signatories on Thursday — two days after primary results that put democratic socialists on track to double their ranks in the House.
“Politics forces false choices between extremes on right and left,” the letter said. “We reject them.”
The letter is led by Representative Tom Suozzi, a New York Democrat who flipped a swing district on Long Island two years ago. . . . .
