At Least Two Volunteer Church Members Shot An Active Shooter and Stopped the Attack at Sunday Church Service. “You are your own first responder”

“You are your own first responder,” said Jay Trombley who was a member of the volunteer security team at Crosspoint Community Church.

A church member saw the attacker carrying an AR-15 rifle and immediately acted—ramming him with a truck. That quick action gave two staff members the chance to shoot the attacker and stop what could have been a mass public shooting. We have been told that these “security” guards were just volunteers members of the church. Attorney Jim Makowski (counsel for Michigan Gun Owners) says: “The church pays for their training and USCCA membership.”

A Michigan police chief said church staff stopped a man armed with a handgun and a long gun, averting a potential mass shooting at a church west of Detroit on Sunday morning.

Chief Ryan Strong said parishioners at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne spotted the gunman driving recklessly and then saw him exit his vehicle wearing a tactical vest and carrying weapons. The man began firing as he approached the building during a church service and was confronted, Strong said at a news conference.

“A parishioner struck the gunman with his vehicle as the gunman shot the vehicle repeatedly,” Strong said. “At least two staff members shot the gunman, causing the fatal wounds.” . . .

A volunteer security team member stopped an attempted mass shooting at a local church in Wayne on Sunday. No parishioners were killed, thanks in part to Jay Trombley.

Trombley is a member of Cross Pointe Community Church and its safety team, which sprang into action when 31-year-old Brian Browning showed up Sunday morning armed with a rifle and handgun. . . .

Initial news reports only described it as a security guard stopping the attack.

“The Wayne Police Department responded to an active shooter at Crosspointe Church in Wayne this morning,” the department said. “Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect. One victim was shot in the leg. Please avoid the area. Officers are still actively investigating.” . . . The outlet said that the armed suspect was on his way into the Christian church when a person outside the church tried to stop him using a truck. . . .

John, would you change your URL and your text that appears in Twitter when I share this article? Because both the URL and your meta text say “security guard”.

Sorry, Jon. Once we put something up with an initial title it sticks that way. Please put a cover discussion on it if you post it. The initial news stories on this were wrong. However, I greatly appreciate you reaching out to me. Thank you.
