While the police were able to arrive on the scene within two minutes of the attack, the attack had already been stopped by a concealed handgun permit holder.

On May 28, at about 10:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire near 1st Avenue and Union Street. Officers arrived and found three people with gunshot wounds. Police provided medical treatment to the injured parties until they were relieved by the Seattle Fire Department (SFD).
Officers determined that there was a disturbance near 1st Avenue and Union Street. During this altercation, the suspect shot two victims. A private citizen that is licensed to carry a firearm intervened and shot the suspect.
SFD transported both victims and the suspect to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) in serious condition. Despite all life-saving efforts, doctors pronounced the suspect deceased at HMC. . .

Two people were injured and one was killed in a shooting near Seattle’s Pike Place Market Wednesday night.
According to Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes, officers responded to a shooting around 10 p.m. at the corner of 1st Avenue and Union Street.
SPD reports that officers arrived within two minutes of the call and began lifesaving measures. Two of the officers were EMT-qualified, which Chief Barnes believes contributed to the outcome.
