A man is being hailed a “hero” and “good Samaritan” by Ormond Beach Police for helping an elderly couple who were fighting a woman attempting to steal their car…
Police said the attempted carjacking happened at the Exxon on US-1 just off the interstate in Ormond Beach. The couple told police they pulled into the gas station, parked in a spot, and that’s when the carjacking suspect, Marvette Perry, jumped in their car.
McDaniel saw it all happening and jumped in to help…
When he noticed the woman, later identified as Perry, acting strangely near them, McDaniel said he started getting his gun out of its case. That’s when he saw the couple park their car and Perry sprint towards them…
The police said Perry jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to take the car from the couple while the wife was still in it. The husband grabbed Perry’s leg to stop her from leaving with the car.
McDaniel said he kept his gun on Perry until he realized she was unarmed, and another bystander called 911. He said the entire situation moved quickly…

A concealed carry license holder fired shots at a group who attempted to carjack him on the Northwest Side early Saturday morning.
Chicago police said around 3:30 a.m., a 34-year-old man was walking to his car in the 3700 block of North Spaulding Avenue when a black sedan pulled up, and three armed offenders exited and demanded the keys to his vehicle.
The man then pulled out his handgun and fired at the group, who returned to the sedan and left the scene, police said…

Turan Sanders was dropping off a passenger nearby when he noticed the man running toward the woman by the dumpster area of a condo community in Stanton just before 8 p.m. Sunday.
The driver took immediate action and fired off a warning shot, which didn’t stop the man from attacking the 60-year-old woman.
“This female was defenseless. He began to like brutally beat her — he was kneeing her — slamming her head against the ground,” said Sanders.
The man then charged at Sander’s vehicle and proceeded to hit the glass repeatedly.
“I recognized he wasn’t going to stop. I took aim and I dropped him,” said Sanders.
The bullet hit the man on the neck and Sanders called 911 right away…
Investigators questioned Sanders but later released him. He said he has no regrets about what he did…

Deputies would end up detaining and questioning a 19-year-old male who was believed to have been involved in the shooting. Police believe the shooting was the result of a verbal and physical altercation between the two men which eventually boiled over when a firearm was produced.
The sheriff’s department provided no further information about the altercation between the two men or the deadly shooting other than stating that “there was evidence of self-defense found.”

According to officials, a man was stopped at his place of business in the 1800 block of East Lufkin Avenue with his wife and baby in the car when Jarvis Houston, 47, approached them. The business owner left his truck running as he stepped out to attach a trailer.
The man said he shot Houston after he attempted to steal the vehicle, despite warnings and even offers of an alternative vehicle…
Both men got into a physical fight after the owner grabbed a nine-millimeter handgun from his truck, “struggled continued and the subject was eventually shot,” explained Lt. Shurley.

A Bradenton man has been arrested after a woman was injured during a Thursday night shootout at a Bradenton mobile home park, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to Sunny Shores Mobile Home Park in the 3900 block of 116th St. W. at around 8 p.m. Thursday after a domestic argument escalated into a shootout, the agency said in a news release.
Detectives said Kevin R. Armstrong confronted a 33-year-old woman after she arrived on a golf cart to retrieve personal items. According to a news release, Armstrong and the woman had been involved in a domestic relationship and he had slapped the woman in the face earlier that evening. During the argument, detectives say Armstrong grabbed a shotgun and fired at the woman as she tried to get away with two men who came with her to retrieve the items.
As Armstrong shot in her direction, detectives say one of the men with the woman grabbed a handgun from their parked golf cart and fired shots at Armstrong. During the exchange of gunfire, detectives say the woman was “struck with a projectile” in her chest…

Police responded to the residential burglary call in the 400 block of Walnut Avenue in the San Gabriel Valley shortly before midnight.
Investigators learned that several suspects exited the residence and were confronted by the homeowners as they waited for officers outside, a spokesperson from the Arcadia Police Department told KTLA.
One homeowner fired a gun into the air when a fight broke out between one of the suspects and another homeowner, the spokesperson said.
The homeowners then kept the suspect from fleeing until officers arrived.
That suspect, and three others who fled the scene in a vehicle, were all detained in connection with the incident, police said.
Police said no one was injured by the gunfire…

A Lake Wales man was fatally shot Tuesday night after he confronted another man outside a residence while armed, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, Vincent Thomas Jr., 21, and at least three other people drove to a home on Northside Drive in Lake Wales about 7 p.m. There, Thomas got out of the car armed with a handgun and confronted Bernard Smith, 20, outside the home, threatening to shoot him.
The Sheriff’s Office said Smith and Thomas went to Lake Wales High School together and had a disagreement.

Citing what he views as a legitimate self-defense claim, Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo said he will not file charges in the June 23 fatal shooting of a Susquehanna Township resident in downtown Harrisburg.
Paul Kattouf died after being shot one time in the chest after he approached a family in another vehicle in the 200 block of State Street, near St. Patrick Roman Catholic Cathedral, and shot pepper spray through an open window at its occupants.
A witness told PennLive previously that the final encounter was brief and violent.
That witness — one of several people who were leaving a dinner at St. Patrick Cathedral when the 5:30 p.m. shooting occurred — told PennLive Paul Kattouf got out of his vehicle to confront the occupants of a black Chevrolet sedan on State Street, between Second and Third streets.
After Kattouf shot the pepper spray into the car, “We heard him (the shooter) say ‘back up off my car’ and then ‘pow!’” the witness said, mimicking a gunshot.

On June 29, officers were called to 1789 Crossroads Church Road in Rockmart around 3:30 a.m., where they found three men shot. Investigation revealed that the victim, a 38-year-old man, was in his car when 34-year-old Troy Sparks and 35-year-old Brandon Stephens allegedly broke the window and began hitting him with a “blunt object.”
The man and Stephens shot at each other, resulting in all three men receiving gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office. Stephens did not survive.
Detectives decided that the victim was acting in self-defense, while Sparks was arrested. Deputies said the two aggressors had previous and unspecified problems with the victim…

Officers determined that three people had been shot at and one of them sustained a graze wound…
As the investigation unfolded, BRPD learned that Taylor came back to the store “upset about his order that he had placed about three hours prior, saying there was hair in his food,” according to the affidavit…
According to the affidavit, Taylor became hostile and disrespectful towards the worker…
Taylor said, “I’ll be outside for y’all” and left the store. He did not get a refund or a new meal and drove away.
Those two employees said they later saw the same vehicle “parked at the school behind the Taco Bell and it appeared to be waiting for them,” according to the affidavit…
BRPD said a vehicle entered the parking lot and Taylor got out with a gun while the others were getting into their vehicles.
The person who arrived to pick up the one employee yelled at Taylor. BRPD said Taylor shot first, and the other fired back…
BRPD said Taylor was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

At around 7:10 p.m., BCSD received a call for shots fired at the Berkeley Gardens apartment complex off of US Route 11 North in Berkeley County.
The caller told police someone was shooting in the area and hit the windshield of her vehicle. Police said that there were more calls from people who said that there was gunfire, and BCSD said that there was a “loud disturbance” in the background…
The gunfire reportedly broke out after a physical altercation between two men. Investigators processing the scene found 18 9mm shell casings along with several bullet fragments. There were no injuries, according to Chief Burnett, who credited a godmother with preventing more serious damages.
“There was a lady there. She heard the shots being fired, and one of the, I think it was her godchild, was involved in it somehow,” Burnett said. “She came downstairs with a .380 and she fired some rounds back at them, which stopped this melee of firepower and they actually took off. So she may have stopped all of that.”…
