Dr. John Lott talked to George Noory on his national radio show from 1:15 to 3:00 AM ET on March 3, 2023. They discussed everything from why violent crime is increasing to what Biden is doing to make gun ownership is more difficult and costly to the FBI’s erroneous numbers on defensive gun use.

The Coast to Coast AM national radio show is heard weekly by 7.75 million people. Here is a list of the 24 past long form appearances on Coast to Coast.

Economist John R. Lott received his Ph.D. in economics from UCLA. In the first half, he discussed his latest work researching the data surrounding gun crime and pending gun control legislation. According to Lott, President Biden has mounted an aggressive campaign to put gun makers and sellers out of business with a “zero tolerance” policy against paperwork errors, no matter how trivial. Biden has talked about banning all semi-automatic guns, “but about 85% of handguns and a similar percentage of rifles in the United States are semi-automatic; they’re not weapons of war,” and it’s misleading to refer to them as such, he continued.

The number of shooters stopped by civilians carrying permitted concealed carry weapons is consistently underestimated by the Dept. of Justice, he cited. Would-be killers know they can rack up a greater number of deaths if they go to a place where it’s illegal to carry concealed handguns, he added. Putting someone in a uniform that carries a gun in places like a school is problematic because if there is a shooter, they may go after them first, said Lott, who suggested having an armed person who blends in, so they may have a better chance to stop an attack. Lott was also critical of the cost of getting a concealed carry permit, which can be prohibitively expensive in states like California.

So is there really a question of whether Trump reduced crime in DC? Did the Washington Post inaccurately report murder data to make the drop look smaller than it actually is?

So is there really a question of whether Trump reduced crime in DC? Did the Washington Post inaccurately report murder data to make the drop look smaller than it actually is?

The Washington Post doesn't really want to give President Trump credit for the drop in crime in DC. Please look at the graph above and notice that there was a discrete change in August and September 2025 (and the change only started about half way through August on...
