The Supreme Court’s Bruen decision from June has greatly impacted the number of concealed handgun permits in Maryland. Our last annual report showed that as of August 27th, 2022, there were 47,674 concealed handgun permits in Maryland, up from 12,189 in 2021. But permit issuance had continued soaring, and by the end of 2022, 85,266 permits were issued — a 599% increase from 2021 and a 79% increase from the end of August. That is still only about 1.8% of the adult population with permits, but it is sizeable increase over what it had been before.
