Rep Jerry Nadler Calls John Lott’s Testimony on AR-15s “idiotic.” Did Nadler lie about what he said?

Dr. John Lott testified before House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Uvalde Mass Shooting and Gun Violence. Committee chair Jerry Nadler claimed that John Lott said: “that there is no effective difference between an AR-15 and a single shotgun.” Here is part of Lott’s testimony where he explicitly talked about the differences between semi-automatic and manually loaded guns.

Rather than saying that manually loaded guns are identical to an AR-15, the point Lott was making was that manually loaded guns make self-defense much more difficult. If one has to fire more than one shot because they are facing multiple attackers, fire and miss, or wound but don’t incapacitate the attacker, people may not have the luxury of time to manually reload their guns to fire a second shot.

Here is the entire testimony for Dr. Lott.
