Testimony on Prohibiting Government Seizure of guns During Emergencies Before The New Mexico House Consumer And Public Affairs Committee

Feb 28, 2021 | Testimony

New Mexico House Consumer and Public Affairs committee member and bill sponsor State Representative Stefani Lord invited Dr. John Lott to be the lead witness on HB 279. The bill was an attempt to bring New Mexico in line with the laws in 40 other states and the Federal government that prohibit the seizure of guns during emergencies. In New Mexico, the governor closed down gun stores due to the Coronavirus. Because the state had also enacted universal background checks, that meant that no legal purchases of guns could occur in the state during that time-period.
