New York City logged 1,004 shootings as of Aug. 30, according to NYPD data released Monday. Last year, there had been just 537 by that time. Of those 210 resulted in an arrest.

While it isn’t directly comparable, few murders are resulting in an arrest in Baltimore and Chicago.

In 2019, only 25.6% of Baltimore’s murders resulted in an arrest.

In 2019, Chicago police recorded 486 murders but only made 109 arrests – an arrest rate of just 22%.

By contrast, over 70% of murders result in an arrest nationwide.
