If voter ID laws disenfranchise minority voters, don’t similar rules prevent minorities from owning guns? Congressman uses CPRC research

Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) asks panelists before the House Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties about what kinds of requirements disenfranchise voters. He goes on to point out that those restrictions already exist for gun purchases.

Not everyone liked Massie’s question about whether these restrictions prevent minorities from owning guns. Myrna Pérez, Deputy Director of the Brennan Center’s Democracy Program and leader of the center’s Voting Rights and Elections project, refused to answer.

The Crime Prevention Research Center has sparked the debate on how gun control regulations prevent poor minorities from owning guns. The research that Massie refers to on this topic can be found here:
