On The Michigan Talk Network: SCOTUS taking up “bearing arms” case

Jan 29, 2019 | Featured

Dr. John Lott, President of the Crime Prevention Research Center, talks with Steve Gruber about the U.S. Supreme Court taking up a case concerning New York City’s current gun ordinance and “the right to bear arms.” This is the biggest gun rights case in nearly a decade. The court will review New York City resident gun owners’ ability to carry their (legal) guns outside of their homes.

The current New York City ordinance only allows residents with so-called premise licenses to take their guns to shooting ranges within city limits. However, the ordinance forbids them from from taking their guns anywhere else, including second homes and shooting ranges or shooting competitions outside the city, even when unloaded and locked in a container separate from any ammunition.

Lott also discussed the dangers of gun-free zones.
