Research from the Crime Prevention Research Center reported that over 6 percent of adults now hold a concealed carry permit. Outside states such as New York and California, the number increases to 8 percent.
According to the report, women accounted for 36 percent of the total number of permit holders. Data gathered from eight states showed that from 2012 to 2016, women were obtaining permits 326 percent faster than men.
For those states that keep records of concealed carry permits obtained by race, from 2012 to 2016, blacks obtained permits 30 percent faster than whites.
However, the CPRC reported that some states seem to show a racist, or sexist biases, picking and choosing who gets a concealed permit, and who doesn’t.
“There are also significant differences in not only the number of permits issued but also who gets them when politicians have discretion in granting them,” CPRC President John Lott Jr said. “Los Angeles County provides a vivid example of how women and Hispanics are given few permits when politicians decided who can defend themselves.” . . .

AOL News has this video, though it gets the CPRC name wrong (probably thinks it is cute) and is somewhat biased.

There are more concealed handgun permits in the U.S. than ever before, according to new analysis from the Crime Research Prevention Center, a nonprofit founded by gun rights advocate John Lott.
There was some expectation that permit requests would wane following the election of Donald Trump, given the new president’s pro-gun stance.
But the number of new permits rose by 1.83 million over the past year, bringing the total number of concealed handgun permit holders in the U.S. to 16.3 million. . . .

Driven by safety concerns and reports of terrorist attacks, more Americans than ever have applied for and received permits to carry concealed pistols, and in one Pennsylvania county dubbed “God’s Country,” over half of all adults are licensed to carry, according to a new report.
The research from economist John Lott’s Crime Prevention Center shows that permit granting has continued to surge under President Trump, dispelling expectations that having a pro-gun chief executive in the White House would lead to a dramatic downturn in applications.
Lott said that 16.36 million Americans have permits, and there were an unprecedented 1.83 million approved last year. That means that 6.53 percent of all American adults have a carry permit.
Women and minorities are also getting them at record numbers. Of states that broke out gender and race of permit holders, his latest annual report said that the number of permits granted to women jumped 93 percent in recent years and blacks are getting them at a rate 30 percent higher than whites. . . .
“The two things that stand out in this year’s report is the huge increase in permits for women and minorities as well as how extremely law-abiding the over 16.3 million permit holders continue to be,” Lott, the president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, told Secrets. . . .

A recent increase in law-abiding gun ownership bodes well for the country’s future.
The great arming is underway, and that’s a very good thing for our nation, for our culture, and for the relationship between citizen and state.
On Thursday, John Lott and the Crime Prevention Research Center published a comprehensive survey of the growth in concealed-carry permits in the United States. The numbers are stunning — not just in their growth, but in their depth and consequence. Here’s a sampling. . . .

A Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) study shows that concealed carry permit holders are among the most law-abiding of law-abiding citizens in the country.
For example, for 2016 the study shows that just .0092% of Louisiana permit holders were charged with a felony in 2016. And in 2015 there “were 25,208 violent crimes in Louisiana, with 19 felony charges or convictions against permit holders.” Assuming the felonies were violent and the charges against permit holders stand, this still means permit holders only represent .08% of those who committed violent crimes.
Moreover, “the vast majority of … [cases involving concealed permit holders] are unlikely to involve firearms.”
According to CPRC, the percentage of Michigan concealed permit holders convicted of aggravated assault in 2015-2016 was .003%. The percentage of Michigan permit holders convicted of aggravated assaults in 2014-2015 was .002%. . . .

“Personal security cuts across all demographics,” said Duty. He said it’s especially noticeable among women.
“Culturally, the gender line is starting to break down,” he said. “They’re becoming more comfortable with seeking training on their own and not so dependent on a male in their life. They recognize that they can and should be able to provide for their own protection.”
Duty says he expects these trends to continue as more people become aware of concealed carry laws that support personal defense in Louisiana.
“People want to be secure in their own homes and as they go about their normal business at work or shopping or whatever so it’s not a surprise that people have a universal concern about their safety,” he said. . . .

According to a report done in 2017 by the Crime Prevention Research Center, Pennsylvania is one of three highest issuers of conceal carry permits with 1.28 million permits, second to Florida which has 1.75 million permits, but surprisingly beating out Texas which has 1.2 million permits.
Pennsylvania is also one of only nine states where 10 percent or more adults have a concealed carry permit.
Three local counties are among the highest adult populations with concealed handgun permits in the state with Potter County at about 50 percent, McKean County at about 35 percent and Cameron County at about 31 percent.
In Cameron County, the number of conceal carry permit purchases average at about 25 per month, according to a representative of the sheriff’s office.
In McKean County, the number of permits since the beginning of 2017 has been close to about 1,400 in total, including new purchases and renewals, which is on pace to the number of permits sold in prior years. . . .

The number of concealed handgun permits are up from over a year ago, and those numbers are being fueled by women and minorities. Permits went up a staggering 93 percent among women in eight states that provided data over the past four years.
John Lott, Jr. of the Crime Prevention Research Center told Dana Loesch on today’s “Dana” that a weapon can make up for the natural strength differential between men and women. He also suspected that increases among minorities might be due to concealed carry permits becoming more affordable. . . .

The Crime Prevention Research Center released the data this week and found that 1.83 million new permits were issued last year, the highest yearly increase in history.
Other notable numbers in the data:
Since 2007, the number of concealed handgun permits has increased by 256 percent.
6.53 percent of U.S. adults hold concealed handgun permits. Subtracting data from California and New York, which have strict gun laws, that number jumps to roughly 8 percent.
20 percent of Alabama residents have a concealed handgun permit, the highest in the country.
Pennsylvania’s Potter County boasts a rate of 50.3 percent.
Three states — Florida, Pennsylvania, and Texas — each have more than 1.2 million concealed handgun permit holders.
The Washington Examiner reports the increase in concealed handgun permits has resulted in gains in the gun and gun accessory industries. . . .

. . . Dr. John Lott, popular within the gun rights community for his research linking lower crime rates to lax concealed carry laws, penned an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday detailing the results of the Crime Prevention Research Center’s annual study on concealed handgun permits.
Lott founded CPRC, a nonprofit research center focusing on gun laws, in 2013. Gun control advocates and others pan his expertise and remain critical of his research methodology.
His latest report gathers data from states regarding the 16.3 million concealed handgun permits active nationwide — an increase of 1.83 million since last year.
Women comprise one-third of permit holders across the 14 states with gender-identifying data available, according to CPRC’s study. In the eight states with data on permits between 2012 and 2016 accessible, Lott said permits for women “soared” 93 percent, compared to just 22 percent for men.
Likewise, according to Lott’s editorial, black permit holders increased 30 percent over whites, now comprising 11 percent of all permit holders. . . .

A study from the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) shows during the time period 2007 to 2015, the percentage of adults with carry permits rose 190% and violent crime fell by 18%.
The cut-off year is 2015 because it is “the last full year that crime data is available.” ”
According to CPRC, from 2007 to 2015 the “murder rates fell from 5.6 [per 100,000] to 4.9 per 100,000. This represents a 12.5% drop.” At the same time, “overall violent crime fell by 18 percent.” And again, these drops are coinciding with a 190% increase in “the percentage of adults with permits.”
This news comes in the same report in which the CPRC showed that the number of concealed carry permit holders “grew by a record 1.83 million” in 2016. This beats the previous record of 1.73 million, set in 2015, and means “6.53% of American adults have permits.” Moreover, “outside the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8% of the adult population has a permit.”
There are 11 states where over 10% of the adult population possesses a carry permit. Those 11 states are led by Alabama, where 20% are permitted, and Indiana, where 15.8% of all adults have a permit. . . .

A study by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) shows that women and blacks led last year’s record-breaking surge in concealed carry permits.
According to the CPRC, “the number of permit holders grew by a record 1.83 million” in 2016. And in the 14 states that provide information regarding gender of permit holders, more than one out of three permit holders were women.
The number of women with permits has been increasing for some time. The CPRC shows that “eight states had data from 2012 to 2016 and they saw a 326% faster increase in permits among women than among men.” During the same time period—2012 to 2016—race data available from five states shows “the number of black people with permits increased 30% faster than the number of whites with permits.”
It is also interesting to note the CPRC took an isolated look at Los Angeles County, California, to see what effect the “good cause” requirement may have on permit issuance. They looked at permit holders in 2013, obtaining a list of the 341 permit holders from LA Weekly. (By the way, those are 341 permit holders in a population of 7.7 million people.)
Of the 341, the CPRC was able to figure out race and gender of 135. The findings: “4 Hispanics (3%), 7 blacks (5.2%), 15 Asians (11.1%), and 109 whites.” Moreover, only 16 of the permit holders were female. In other words, it appears that the “good cause” requirement pays dividends to white males—especially white males who contribute to their local sheriff—but not so much for non-whites and women. . . .

The overall number of concealed carry permits have exploded in the last decade, according to John Lott, from 4.6 million in 2007 to over 16 million now.
But where the real explosion is taking place is among women and minorities. . . .

The 61-page report – “Concealed Carry Permit Holders Across the United States: 2017” – was released by the Crime Prevention Research Center this week. . . . .
“John’s report comes at a critical moment when Congress should be discussing national concealed carry reciprocity legislation that was introduced in January,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “We’re impressed with the numbers as the report suggests that interest in personal protection has continued to grow this year. . . .
“Our hats are off to John Lott for assembling this data,” Gottlieb stated. “What this report demonstrates is that Americans are taking the initiative, exercising their right to not only own firearms, but to carry them responsibly. It’s a refreshing return of self-reliance because people have realized that when seconds count, police are minutes away, despite their best efforts to fight crime. This is just one more way we can make the Second Amendment great again.” . . .
Shooting Illustrated, July 25, 2017
The Crime Prevention Research Center’s 2016 concealed carry study found that—for the second year in a row—a record-setting number of new permits was issued, 1.83 million nationwide. That brings the total number of people in the United States who have one up to 16.36 million, “…a 256 percent increase since 2007,” it states.
The figures dominated the news, especially the fact that 6.53 percent of all Americans now have a permit, but Potter County, PA, deserves some of the headlines. One out of every two adults there holds a concealed carry permit.
With a population reported at 17,093 in 2015, it isn’t home to densely populated metroplexes, but the fact it’s not the least populated region in the state is noteworthy. It covers 1,082 square miles with Coudersport as the county seat and rests in the middle of the border of New York state. . . .
