Mother Jones has never been know for its accuracy, and it surely isn’t going to start now. In a new article on February 1st titled, “Trump May Be Gone, But He Left Plenty of Lackeys Behind. Here Are Some of the Worst. How last-minute appointments will keep Trump’s stench alive,” Mother Jones lists CPRC President John Lott as the 5th worst “Lackey” left behind by the Trump Administration.…

From America’s 1st Freedom, Bearing Arms, and Mike the Gun Guy to multiple articles in Michael Bloomberg’s The Trace. Both all the Democratic US Senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote to Attorney General Bill Barr and powerful House Committee Chairs wrote a letter to the Comptroller General of the United States about John Lott’s appointment to the US Department of Justice.…
Before Thanksgiving, Politico ran a piece about the “Controversial gun advocate hired by Justice Department last month.” Media outlets from the Daily Caller to the left-wing Talking Points Memos, Michael Bloomberg’s The Trace have had several articles on Media Matters and Crime Reports.
Gun controllers were very upset: David Hogg, Everytown, Moms Demand, Shannon Watts, The Giffords Law Center, Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, an op-ed writer for the Washington Post, etc have called for him to be fired.…
The big response from Michael Bloomberg’s gun control advocates to my op-ed in the Wall Street Journal was that I was a “gun lobby shill.” It is a false claim that Shannon Watts and other gun control advocates have floated before and I have responded before. Neither the Crime Prevention Research Center nor I have received a $1 for any of our research.…
Media Matters is upset again that a major news outlet has published John Lott’s work. In this case, the anti-conservative group is miffed that he had a piece in the Wall Street Journal.
…Although Lott’s primary pro-gun research theory — that “more guns” equal “less crime” — has been repeatedly debunked over the years by academic researchers, the Journal is the latest major outlet to give him a platform to spread pro-gun nonsense.

The Young Turk’s Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur spent a recent show attacking Ben Shapiro for referencing the Crime Prevention Research Center‘s research on Mass Public Shootings around the world (156,000 views as of March 21, 2019). Following an earlier attack by Snopes.com, Kasparian and Uygur argue that it is misleading to make comparisons across countries using per capita rates.…
The Rand Corporation reaches its conclusions on gun control by having its survey completely ignore studies that indicate that gun control is harmful. Their survey also inaccurately misstates the studies that they do reference.
Time after time, their justifications for excluding studies are simply false. When a study finds that there’s no statistically significant evidence that a particular law had an impact, Rand calls the results “uncertain” or “inconclusive.”…

Over and over again, people working for Michael Bloomberg’s gun control organizations accuse Dr. John Lott of being a “gun lobby shill.” Neither Lott’s research nor the CPRC has received even $1 nor has he applied for funds from any gun organization or gun or ammunition manufacturer. Shannon Watts, founder of the Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action, tries to back up her allegation by referring to charges leveled by the Violence Policy Center in the 1990s.…
Mr. Johnson’s Tweet is available here. Media Matters has a long history of distorting what people have written or said (also here). After pointing out that Hogg’s attacks on others “has gone beyond any acceptable bounds of political discussion,” the point of Dr. Lott’s question was whether he should be treated to the same types of attacks that he levels at others.…

Notice that when gun control advocates supported laws that made it so that the Republican congressmen last year couldn’t defend themselves, did Republicans attack Democrats for having “blood on their hands.” No, but that is a common attack for Democrats. As noted below, Dr. John Lott has long been the subject of these claims.…
