Illinois robbery rate has fallen by 20 percent since concealed handgun permits started being issued

Given the small percentage of Illinoisans who have obtained a concealed handgun permit, it is very doubtful that permitted concealed could have a significant impact on crime rates, though it might put criminals on notice and there were a few startling cases of self defense with permits in Illinois.  In one case in Chicago, a former soldier with a legal permit to carry stopped a gang from killing four people who had just left a party.

CPRC at the Daily Caller: “Violent Crime, Not Police Abuse, Is The Real Threat To Black Americans”

John Lott’s newest piece at the Daily Caller starts this way:

Yesterday’s “Nationwide Day of Rage for Ferguson,” demonstrations that were planned to protest police violence against blacks for the 51 cities across the U.S., was a bust. Is it possible that most blacks believe that violent crime, not the threat of police, is the real danger that threatens black Americans, particularly young black males?

It is often very hard for women who have been victims of sexual type crimes to publicly discuss what has happened to them. Last week in Washington, five women came forward to discuss how gun free zones at colleges have prevented them from defending themselves.

Push for police to use so-called “smart” guns

Given problems with reliability and that the gun is now just available as a 22 caliber, police will likely have to be forced to use this gun. One reason for the low caliber is that the shock from the recoil in the higher caliber guns could damage the electronics. But the decision for police to use this gun may be a political decision, not one based on what is best for the safety of the officers.…
