Mother uses permitted concealed handgun to protect her 13-year-old son after armed gang members shoot him in the leg and foot

Our research shows how it is poor blacks who live in high crime urban areas who benefit the most from having a gun to protect themselves.  This story from ABC TV News in Columbus,  Ohio provides a dramatic example of this point:

A mother and her 13-year-old son were at the corner store in their neighborhood when police say two men approached them and opened fire, shooting her son in both feet.

9th Circuit Appeals Court decision means ends of attempt to over turn decision that struck down California’s concealed carry law

From Fox News:

the same three-judge panel that struck down restrictions on the permits earlier this year ruled Wednesday that it is too late for new opponents to join the fight against the ruling.

The decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals would bar other law enforcement officials, including state Attorney General Kamala Harris, from appealing its ruling .

Murder rate continues to fall as concealed handgun permits soar

With the new crime data just released by the FBI yesterday, the big increase in concealed handgun permits after 2007 continues to be associated with a decline in murder rates (for the number of concealed handgun permits in 2013  see our report available here).

Gallup Survey Shows how people’s views on the benefits of guns has change over the last 15 years

According to Gallup, there has been a massive increase in the percent of the population who views that safety is increased by having guns in the home.  With the exception of Democrats, every single demographic group that Gallup breaks out thinks that having a gun in the home makes people safer (even women by a a 58 to 34 percent majority).…

Initiative 594 Background Checks Vote

So much for the claim that “Nine out of 10 Americans support [expanded] background checks”

It is frequently claimed that 90 percent of Americans support the expanded background check bills that are being considered before different legislatures, though other surveys indicate that support for the actual bills is below 50 percent.

Well, gun control advocates were able to write up their own initiative (594) and put it on the ballot in Washington State.…
