CRPC in the Australian newspaper The Advertiser on what can Australia learn from the US on guns

Andrew Goldsmith and Rick Sarre had an op-ed in The Advertiser (South Australian newspaper) responding to two op-ed pieces that John Lott and Kesten Green, a professor at the University of South Australia and a CPRC senior fellow, had previously run in the newspaper (here and here). In response Lott and Green published the following letter.…

With terrorist threats, the Mall of America is another gun-free zone

The news is filled with a new Somali terror group threat against the Mall of America.  With a large number of Somalis living in the twin city area, this threat carries real significance.  Indeed, all three targets listed by the terrorists are gun-free zones.  Does anyone really believe that the terrorists will see the above sign and thus decide not to take their guns inside.…

Updated: Comparing conviction rates between police and concealed carry permit holders

A recent study provides numbers on police convictions over a three-year period from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2007.  This data was put together by doing news searches on media sources throughout the US.  There are two reasons that their method makes police look relatively more law-abiding than they actually are.

A picture illustrating why armed guards in front of Jewish facilities won’t work

The picture from the New York Daily News shows armed guards outside a Jewish building in Denmark.  These guards present a clear target.  Terrorists would target them first.  It is very difficult for guards to be on alert at all times as these guards illustrate.  The logic of the problems is discussed here.…

CPRC at Fox News discussing “Microstamping” shell casings

From “Gun rights groups await judge’s ruling on California’s ‘microstamping’ law” by reporter Malia Zimmerman at Fox News:

California’s gun laws are among the nation’s strictest, but a looming decision in a federal lawsuit could effectively ban handguns altogether in the Golden State, according to plaintiffs who want a judge to toss out a state law requiring all new handguns to be equipped with technology that “stamps” each shell casing with a traceable mark.

Bloomberg’s Moms Demand Action makes false statement to Texas state Senators, claiming that there are no numbers on the behavior of permit holders

The bizarre thing here is that Moms Demand Action really thought that they could get away with their claim that there is no data available on how permit holders behave.  Surely, Texas state Senators know what information is offered by the Texas Department of Public Safety, and similar data is available for other states (Michigan and Florida, though the CPRC didn’t pay to obtain the Florida data).  …

CPRC at Fox News: “Let’s not be so quick to believe gun-control rhetoric”

John Lott’s newest piece at Fox News on the New York Times reporting the latest Violence Policy Center claims starts this way:

People walking the streets with guns pose a danger to others, right? With 12 million Americans across all 50 states now having concealed handgun permits, one would think that this question would have been settled one way or another.
