Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham again cherry picks research and misstates what those studies show

23 Oct , 2015

The Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham has another new post on gun control (earlier ones here), where he is claiming that most people are wrong to believe that permitted concealed handguns make them safer.  In this case, Ingraham is responding to a new Gallup poll that finds that by a 56-to-41 percent margin Americans believe that more people legally carrying permitted concealed handguns would make them safer.…

On the Michael Dukes Radio Show: the renewed calls for an assault weapons ban, or why the Washington Post doesn’t have a clue on how to do research

24 Feb , 2018

Dr. John Lott talked to Michael Dukes, whose radio show is heard in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska.  They discussed an article in the Washington Post by Christopher Ingraham that pushed for an assault weapons ban after the Florida high school attack.  One’s first reaction to all this is that banning guns based on how they look rather than how they function seems very unlikely to have any effect (these semi-automatic AR-15s fire the same bullets, with the same rapidity, doing the same damage as semi-automatic hunting rifles), but it doesn’t some such as Ingraham to believe otherwise.…

In The Hill: “Democrats should embrace FBI background check for voters and gun purchasers alike”

22 Sep , 2017

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at The Hill

Background checks are required for so many things from getting a job to buying a gun. But despite legitimate concerns about voting by illegal aliens and felons, Democrats become outraged by the mention of checks for voting.

Last week, in testimony to the President’s Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, I suggested using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to screen for ineligible voters.

Responding to some of the attacks on Dr. Lott after his testimony to the President’s Advisory Commission on Election Integrity

14 Sep , 2017

Over the last few days, there have been a lot of attacks on Dr. Lott research after his testimony to the President’s Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.  One of the common lines of attack has been that he testified in an area where he is not an expert.

The Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham claims:

“But Lott also occasionally branches out into other topics.

Gun sales down from record 2016 levels, but still higher than previous years.

10 Sep , 2017

Gun control advocates live in a media bubble.  After Lois Becket wrote a story in the Guardian that focuses on how gun sales for one company have fallen, the Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham followed up, thinking that anything showing that gun sales are down as great news.  While it might be tempting to look at the sales of one or two publicly traded companies, the firearm industry has a large number of very small firms, and looking at one or two companies (even if larger than others) may not give a very good measure of total sales.  …

15 Dec , 2016

Dr. Lott has a new piece at the Daily Caller that start this way:

Democrats and their media allies are trying everything they can to delegitimize Trump’s election. It started with a series of hopeless recounts, and now they claim that Russia hacked Democrat emails. . . .

Google news searches have been found to favor Democrats and left-leaning sites such as Media Matters” over sources such as Fox News and the Daily Caller.

CPRC in the Washington Post on Mass Shooting Tracker’s misleading methodology and claim of 355 mass shootings this year

4 Dec , 2015

John Lott’s past concerns about Mass Shooting Tracker’s methodology were aired by Christopher Ingraham in the Washington Post”

Some observers, such as independent researcher and gun-rights proponent John Lott, object to the tracker’s methodology, because it counts “a lot of shootings where people aren’t killed, criminal gangs are involved, and cases take place out of public view.”
