Who are the FFLs that the Biden Administration is Putting out of Business?

Aug 18, 2023 | gun control

Mr. Tom Harris of the Sporting Arms Co. of Lewisville, Texas, is a disabled individual and father of five who makes his income from his home-based FFL. Apparently, Harris had some small paperwork mistakes fifteen and sixteen years ago. The ATF cleared him, but now the Biden administration, under their zero-tolerance policy, is revisiting those closed cases and reopening them to take away his license.

When Biden described his zero tolerance policy in 2021 he described it this way. It is pretty clear that Mr. Harris’ case is not at all related to the claims that Biden made to justify his policy.

It’s zero tolerance for gun dealers who willfully violate key existing laws and regulations. Let me repeat: zero tolerance.

If you willfully sell a gun to someone who is prohibited from possessing it, if you willfully fail to run a background check, if you willfully falsify a record, if you willfully fail to cooperate with the tracing requests or inspections, my message to you is this: We’ll find you, and we will seek your license to sell guns. We’ll make sure you can’t sell death and mayhem on our streets. It’s an outrage. It has to end, and we’ll end it. Period. . . .

Joe Biden, “Remarks by President Biden and Attorney General Garland on Gun Crime Prevention Strategy,” The White House, June 23, 2021

Harris has a funding page to try and cover his legal costs (see here).
