Dr. John Lott has a new piece in the Washington Times. His piece relies heavily on our research on mass killings around the world.
…The national Sunday morning talk shows blamed President Trump for the New Zealand massacre that left 50 dead. CNN’s Jake Tapper warned: “I don’t think moderate Republicans are doing enough to hold President Trump accountable for his rhetoric.”
Democrat Presidential Candidate Kirsten Gillibrand: “Unfortunately, because the gun manufacturers only care about gun sales, they oppose the commonsense reform that can save lives. They want to oppose universal background checks because they want to sell an assault rifle to a teenager in a Walmart.”
Senator Gillibrand apparently doesn’t know this, but since 1994 if you tried to buy a gun through any dealer in the United States, there was a background check done on you.…
Dr. Lott talks with host Steve Gruber about the huge push for more funding for gun-control research. Many of these organizations impact people’s perceptions about gun ownership, even though many of these organizations do very poor research on guns and crime.

…The media wants to call anyone who is a racist a “right-wing” extremist. Here is Dr. John Lott’s take on the mass public shooting in New Zealand.
…The Washington Post called the New Zealand mosque shooting “one of the worst cases of right-wing terrorism in years.” Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called the killer “an extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist.”
Dr. Lott’s testimony before the Kentucky state House Judiciary Committee on Constitutional Carry received some coverage in USA Today (link available here). A video of his testimony is available here.

On CBS’s FBI, a seventeen-year-old steals his father’s gun from a locked gun safe at home and attempts a mass public shooting. The message is parents should be afraid of guns in the home even if they are locked in a safe. Others would support banning guns in the home. Since this type of event is indeed possible, this wouldn’t obviously show bias by itself, but CBS’s FBI has no offsetting examples of civilian-owned guns being beneficial.…

Dr. John Lott talked to One America News’ John Hines about the House Judiciary Committee’s voting on the Universal Background Check bill. Lott’s portion of the news segment starts at 1:59 in the video and goes to 2:19.

…As New Zealand moves quickly to adopt more gun control (indeed, a ban on semi-automatic guns), it may come as a surprise that the killer carried out his attack to push for more gun control in both New Zealand and the United States. As the above video shows, the New Zealand Prime Minister called immediately for more gun control, even before many basic questions were answered about the attack.…
UPDATE: The original news reports suggested that a Muslim at the Mosque had run home (presumably very nearby) to get his gun to stop the attack. Well, new reports suggest something quite different happened. There are basic inconsistencies between the two reports.
The original reports suggest that the Muslim was able to fire the gun at the attacker, but the other articles suggest that he took the gun from the shooter and didn’t know how to fire it.…
