An attempted robbery at a Milwaukee gas station was thwarted when a citizen shot the robber, according to police.

It happened Thursday evening, July 26 near 35th and Silver Spring.

Milwaukee police say a person outside the Citgo gas station shot the alleged robbery suspect in the butt. Police say the 21-year-old male suspect attempted to rob a 33-year-old-man, when that man, who was a CCW permit holder, shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. . . .

(Thomas) Chojnacki said (Alasan) Dawan wasn’t able to remove his gun from its safety holster, but his wallet and phone fell to the ground. Chojnacki was able to pull his gun from its holster and Dawan ran from the scene. Seconds later, he returned, and the complaint says he grabbed Chojnacki’s wallet and phone and began to run away with them. At this point, Chojnacki shot Dawan once in his right hip area, and he fell to the pavement.

Chojnacki said he was open carrying his firearm as a concealed carry permit holder.

Surveillance video confirmed Chojnacki’s account of events, the complaint says. . . .

Thomas Chojnacki said Monday, Aug. 6 he did spend three days in jail before the decision was made not to charge him. The district attorney confirmed for FOX6 News no charges would be filed. . . .

An armed bystander shot a man who opened fire on a back-to-school event at a Titusville park after a fistfight, police said. 

The shooting occurred at Isaac Campbell Park on South Street shortly after 5:20 p.m. when the shooter, whom police have not identified, returned to the park after a fistfight and began firing, investigators said.

A bystander, who was licensed to a carry a firearm, shot the gunman, police said. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. . . .

The bystander who shot the suspect waited for officers and has been fully cooperative with the ongoing investigation, they said. After consulting with the State’s Attorney’s office, police said no charges are expected to be filed against him. . . .

Authorities say a Massachusetts cab driver fatally shot a passenger who tried to rob him.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office says after the cab driver picked up two men in New Bedford early Friday, the men put the driver in a choke hold and used a knife to try to rob him.

Prosecutors say the driver managed to escape the cab and fired several shots, hitting 24-year-old Christopher Dunton. Dunton was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Prosecutors say the other man fled the scene. They say that man, 23-year-old Kyle Dawson, was arrested in New Bedford after noon on Friday. . . .

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said the cab driver, who has not been identified, suffered a slight superficial wound and that he’s doing OK. Authorities also added that the driver was legally authorized to carry a gun. . . .

A concealed-carrying ride-share driver shot at two customers-turned-carjackers Thursday night in the Belmont Heights neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The struggle began about 11:15 p.m. when the 23-year-old driver picked up two males in the 7400 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to Chicago Police. The males began to beat the driver and attempted to take his vehicle.

The driver, who had a concealed-carry license, pulled out a handgun and chased the two males out of his vehicle, firing shots at them but missing, police said.

During the foot chase, one of the two males jumped back in the vehicle and sped off, according to police. The ride-share driver grabbed onto his vehicle and was dragged a short distance before he let go and the carjacker drove away. . . .

An 18-year-old man was shot late Tuesday while attempting to rob a pair of cable repairmen in north Houston, police said.

The attempted robbery happened just before midnight, said Lt. Larry Crowson of the Houston Police Department. Two cable repairmen were working on a cable box in the Northline neighborhood, near Fulton and Veenstra.

At least two armed men approached them and attempted to rob them, Crowson said, but one of the repairmen – who has a concealed handgun license – pulled out a gun.

They exchanged gunfire, Crowson said, and one of the robbery suspects was shot. He ran down the street and collapsed. He was taken to a hospital. . . .

A tow truck driver shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to rob him, police said.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon in the 100-block of North Leamington Avenue in Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood.

The driver said that four individuals attempted to rob the driver who then pulled out a gun. The other individual ran away, but one person was injured by the driver.

The injured man was hospitalized in good condition.

The driver does have a conceal carry license.

A 14-year-old was arrested after Clay County deputies said he threatened a Fleming Island Walmart customer with a knife and demanded she have sex with him.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a man who was nearby stepped in with his gun to help. Deputies said he had a concealed-carry license and did the right thing.

According to the incident report, the assault happened Tuesday around 6 p.m. at the Walmart on County Road 220. In a Facebook post, the women explained she thought the teen wanted to help her with groceries, but as he approached he told her, “I want you to have sex with me. I’ve got a knife in my pocket.”

When she saw a man walking by the aisle, she yelled for help, the Sheriff’s Office said. News4Jax spoke with that man, who wished to remain anonymous.

When the man heard the cry for help, he drew his gun, which he was licensed to carry and stopped the teenager. According to the man, the woman said the teen threatened to stab her if she didn’t comply. . . .

Just after 6 a.m. on Oct. 4, after running away from Unified police officers who were trying to question him about another incident, Overall went into a Starbucks at 3898 S. 900 East. He ran behind the counter and punched a woman on the side of her head, according to charging documents. . . .

When he was done, Overall “aggressively approached” a man in the store, according to the charges.

The man, a regular patron at the coffee shop who knows Hamilton and has a concealed weapons permit, approached Overall, then shot him once when Overall went after him, according to police. . . .

In 2013, Starbucks made a request that customers not bring firearms into its stores or outdoor eating areas, but the company specified that it was a request and not an outright ban. . . .

Police say a 27-year-old man was walking along Sperry Street toward Goffe Street when he was confronted by a man holding a knife. That man reportedly said “Happy Halloween” and then stabbed the victim. 

The victim’s cousin, a 24-year-old from Hamden, was waiting in his car.  We’re told he heard the commotion, got out of his car and was also stabbed.

The 24-year-old then took out his gun and shot the assailant in the chest, killing him.

According to police, the 24-year-old who shot the suspect does have a pistol permit. His gun is also registered. . . .

A man held three alleged attempted burglary suspects at gunpoint outside of Belmont Party Supply, located at 2621 S. Smithville Road, until police arrived in Dayton earlier Sunday morning around 3 a.m. . . .

Upon grabbing his pistol and running across the street, Kevin told the suspects to get on the ground. The female and the man standing outside the window complied and sat down. The person inside, who was wearing a black hoodie, came out with his face covered, got in the passenger side of the vehicle, and slid into the driver’s seat. After yelling at him to get out of the car, he eventually did and sat down.

Kevin had his pistol pointed at the three suspects sitting until police arrived. When they did, they demanded Kevin to put the gun down, and when he did, one of the males fled the scene. . . .

Customers at the Jack’s Bait Shop in North Naples got the scare of their life when one man tried to wreak havoc outside.

If it wasn’t for Good Samaritan, named Tom, standing by, an evening out could have turned into someone’s worse nightmare. . . .

Tom says a man, who deputies later identified and arrested as Keith Zavattaro, 55, of Naples, drove back to the front of the building, stopped and then slowly rolled down his window to then point what looked like a gun. “So I got behind the cement pillar and showed my pistol, and he took off out of there really quick,” Tom said. . . .

A father said he had to pull out his gun to protect his family when he saw a naked man at a city park. 

The incident happened over the weekend at Trailblazer Park in Newton County.

Channel 2’s Matt Johnson learned the father was at the park with his his two children, his mother and his grandmother when the 21-year-old naked man approached them.

The father, Tae Lovelace, explained to Johnson he told the man to leave several times before he grabbed his gun and chased the man. He was able to hold the man while another family member called police. . . .

A Phenix City store clerk is feeling uneasy after he says he was forced to shoot a robbery suspect who first held him at gunpoint.

The incident happened Monday night at the Lucky Food Store on 10th Avenue near Pine Hill Baptist Church. . . .

“He made me get down on the floor on my knees and he put a pistol to my head,” the clerk said. He turned around to grab some cigarettes and that’s when I seen the chance to actually grab my pistol and I shot him.”

The clerks said he feared for his life and he shot the suspect three times in the abdomen with a 45-caliber handgun. . . .

Ohio County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the man accused of attempting to rob a Triadelphia bar in the late night hours Tuesday morning after the bartender tried to dissuade the robber by pulling a gun of his own.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard, police were working through Wednesday to obtain surveillance footage of the incident, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First and Last Shot Cantina, on National Road in Triadelphia.

Howard said the man allegedly drew a gun at the door to the bar, only to take off running when the employee drew his own weapon.

“The guy showed up at the door, brandished a weapon, and the employee brandished his weapon back,” Howard said. “The guy took off running. We got the dogs on him, they tracked him, and they found his car over by Wanda’s (Bargain Barn), and he got in his car and took off.”. . . 

Howard said he is a proud supporter of the second amendment right to defend oneself. He said whether employees should be allowed to carry weapons on the job should be up to individual businesses.

“I’m very pro-right-to-carry, but that’s up to the individual business as to let them carry like that,” he said. . . .

Littlefield Police say a man with a license to carry a concealed handgun stopped an armed carjacking Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a call on West Fourth Street near Laguna Park. The caller said a man armed with a knife was assaulting a woman on her property and trying to take her car.

Investigators say Ruben Garcia Lopez, 25, confronted the woman and her boyfriend, claiming it was his car. The woman was trying to get her children out of the vehicle.

A neighbor arrived home, saw the attack and came to the rescue. Police say he pointed his handgun at the attacker and walked him across the street. A police officer arrived, the suspect dropped the knife then attacked the officer. The officer then subdued the suspect and placed him under arrest. . . .

Republic police are encouraging citizens to exercise their Second Amendment right after a man defended himself with a pistol against a suspect who jumped through his open car window while he was still inside.

Police went to Facebook to post about the incident in downtown Republic. Police said in the post that the suspect is likely responsible for a variety of other vehicle break-ins that have occurred throughout the town.

This time, to the suspect’s surprise, the owner of the vehicle was inside and was also a concealed carry permit holder. Police said the car owner was armed and pointed a pistol at the suspect, ordering him to get on the ground and to not move. The suspect complied. . . .

Police believe two customers shot an armed robber at a GetGo on the northeast side of town this evening.

Police received a call around 6:30 p.m. about an armed man attempting to rob the convenience store, located near the intersection of Pendleton Pike and Shadeland Ave. Police say the man arrived at the GetGo in a stolen vehicle. When the man pulled out a gun, police believe two armed customers fired multiple shots at the suspect. . . .

A pharmacist at Princess Anne’s Karemore Pharmacy foiled a pair of armed robbers Monday afternoon. . . .

When Amir realized a robbery was in progress, he said he took his revolver out of a desk drawer and started to walk out into the shop holding the handgun. He was met by the would-be robber, who pointed the rifle at him, he said.

“I don’t know much about guns,” said Amir, “but it was a big gun and looked like an assault weapon.

“When he saw my revolver,” Amir said, “he yelled to the other man to run, saying ‘He has a gun’ and both of them started running away. I fired once in their direction, but it doesn’t seem like anyone was hit.”. . .

A man was wounded in an attempted robbery that turned into a shootout early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The 44-year-old was sitting in his vehicle about 1:25 a.m. in the 4100 block of North Carroll Avenue when a gunman approached and tried to rob him, Chicago police said.

The man pulled out his own gun and the two began to shoot at each other, according to police. He was struck in the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

Police did not know if the robber had been shot. The wounded man had a license to carry his weapon.

The Austin Police Department is searching for two men who allegedly robbed a victim at gunpoint in North Austin, police said.

The incident happened at 11111 Research Blvd. at Seton Northwest Hospital around 8:32 p.m. Saturday, APD said.

Officials said the victim happened to be a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) holder and fired at least one round at the suspects. The two suspects reportedly ran away from the scene.

APD said no arrests have been made.

A would-be burglar is expected to survive after being shot Saturday morning by the man he was trying to rob at local gas station, according to a Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The victim was getting gas when after three black men attempted to rob a man at the Shell gas station at N. Military Trail and Community Drive at 6:47 a.m.

Deputies say the man feared for his life and fired his gun — which he has a concealed weapons permit for — and shot one of the suspects. . . .

The burglary suspect arrested Wednesday in the area of Pine Creek Road west of Red Bluff has been identified by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department as Raymond Dale McManus, 34, of Red Bluff.

McManus was arrested after being found by the burglary victim and held at gunpoint about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until officers arrived, according to a press release issued Thursday by the sheriff’s department. . . .

Wesley Arrowsmith reported at 8:39 a.m. Wednesday he found McManus in a rural area off 36W and detained him at gunpoint, the release said. Deputies found McManus on the west end of Pine Creek Road and he was arrested. Wesley Arrowsmith is a valid concealed weapons permit holder. . . .

Two men are facing felony charges after being shot by a business owner Tuesday night during an attempted robbery in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

About 7:05 p.m., 29-year-old Jimmy Smith and 21-year-old Raju Bell walked into the business in 300 block of West 75th Street and pulled out weapons in an effort to rob it, according to Chicago Police. The business owner then fired shots, striking Bell in the abdomen and Smith in the arm. . . .

An unidentified teen tried to take a 79-year-old woman’s car at gunpoint Tuesday in Cleveland’s Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood, police said. . . .

The woman had just arrived home in her brown 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when the teen, who appeared to be roughly 17 years old, approached her car and opened a door.

The teen pointed a gun at the woman and said “get out, I’m taking your car,” the report says.

The woman’s grandson was in her house and saw the attempted carjacking through a window. The grandson grabbed his own gun, ran outside and told the teen to leave his grandmother alone, the report says. . . .

Two vehicles exchanged gunfire near the intersection of Pulaski Road and Belmont Avenue Friday night, according to witnesses. . . .

The shots rang out around 10:48 p.m. on Friday when there were about a dozen people at the bar, Gwinn said. After the shooting witnesses said one of the vehicles headed north on Pulaski. . . .

The three men in the sedan reportedly began flashing gang signs before one of them drew a gun and began firing, Westbrooks said.

“However the 21-year-old victim, who is a concealed carry holder, displayed his own weapon and returned fire,” said Westbrooks. “Neither party was shot and no injuries have been reported.” . . .

A person who robbed a store at gunpoint Tuesday morning seemed to get more than he expected when a worker followed him out of the store and shot at him.

Chesapeake Police Department spokesman Officer Leo Kosinski said four people pulled up to Smoke Shop in the 3100 block of Western Branch Boulevard in a red car shortly before 11 a.m. One of the people got out of the car with his face covered. He had a gun. Kosinski said the person went into the store and grabbed some merchandise. . . .

The person ran out of the business and got into the car. A worker with a gun followed him out of the store and took a shot at the red car as it left. Police don’t know if the bullet hit the car or anyone inside it. . . .

A restaurant owner fed up from being burglarized held a suspect at gunpoint after he tried breaking and entering.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said they arrived to find Jovette Williams, the owner of Smoke in the City, holding the suspect, Issac Palmer, at gunpoint when they arrived.

Williams said she recently had her BBQ trailer business burglarized twice and watched the trailer as an unknown suspect began crawling underneath the door. She said Palmer pulled the door out and made entry into the trailer. (She told police that the door to the business is able to be locked, but the bottom is broken so that it may be pulled out.)

She said she held Williams at gunpoint until police showed up.

A robbery attempt turned into a shooting in Trotwood Thursday morning.

The Montgomery County Coroner has identified the person killed as 17-year-old Calvin Craver.

It happened just after 2:30 am Thursday on Salem Avenue near Wolf Road.

Dispatchers say a man with a gun came into the “My Garage” auto repair shop.

Employees were inside the business working at the time.

Dispatchers say during the robbery attempt, someone from inside the business pulled a gun on Craver and shot him.

The man who shot the suspect called 911. . . .

Shreveport Police Department released a man after he shot and killed 62 year old James Tinsley on Monday at 1:34 p.m.

Cpl. Marcus hines explained that based on the information and evidence they have, they believe the shooting was an act of self-defense.

According to Louisiana law, a homicide is justifiable “When committed in self-defense by one who reasonably believes that he is in imminent danger of losing his life or receiving great bodily harm and that the killing is necessary to save himself from that danger.”

The law also says as long as the person is not engaged in anything illegal, he doesn’t have a duty to retreat before using deadly force.

“A person who is not engaged in unlawful activity and who is in a place where he or she has a right to be shall have no duty to retreat before using deadly force as provided for in this Section, and may stand his or her ground and meet force with force.”

In the case of the East Stoner Skate Park deadly shooting, police said Tinsley was armed with a gun and an axe handle.

Police said he also threatened to hurt the man who later shot and killed him. . . .

A pizza delivery driver in Beaver County will not be charged after shooting and killing a robbery suspect Thursday when he ambushed and attacked him.

It happened just before midnight along Second Avenue in Beaver Falls, police said.

Investigators told Channel 11 the pizza delivery driver had just dropped off a pizza at an apartment and was walking back to his car when the suspect, armed with a knife, ambushed him and tried to rob him.

Police said the suspect stabbed the delivery driver, who then grabbed a gun from inside his car and shot the suspect. The suspect was found dead on a stranger’s porch several homes down. . . .

A shooting reported Tuesday night near Turtle Creek turned out to be part of a string of crimes that began in Dallas and ended in Highland Park, police say.

Shortly before 8 p.m., a caller reported that he shot a man and woman he saw break into his vehicle in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 75 and take property. The man, a commissioned security guard, said he fired the shots when the pair drove their truck toward him, Dallas police said. . . .

When officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the Oak Forest Apartments at 1531 S. State Highway 121, witnesses told them that a man was beating and stabbing a child in the courtyard near an apartment building, police said. . . .

One of the witnesses heard screams, then grabbed a gun and fired three rounds with one of the shots striking the father in the leg. . . .

Police said the witness who fired the shot that stopped the attack will not face criminal charges. . . .

A knife-wielding man was taken into a custody after a Greyhound bus headed to Denver crashed on Monday night, the Fountain Police Department said.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. on northbound Interstate 25 close to the South Academy overpass, police said.

Police said 47-year-old Edmundo Arellanes-Audelo was threatening the driver and the other 26 passengers with a knife.

He gained access into the secured area of the bus and tried to attack the driver while purposely grabbing the steering wheel, causing it to crash.

Another passenger confronted Arellanes-Audelo, at which point the suspect broke out a window and got out of the bus.

After getting out, Arellanes-Audelo was confronted by a passerby, who was armed with a gun. After seeing the gun, Arellanes-Audelo dropped the knife and remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived. . . .

Police say a business owner opened fire on four attempted burglars who tried to smash their way into his store. One ended up with four bullet wounds. . . .

The store owner, who didn’t want to be identified, told Thomas he woke up to find people walking around his store, grabbing phones and computers. He grabbed his gun, afraid they might shoot at him.

“I woke up, I grabbed my pistol and I see people moving around,” he told Thomas. “I put a bullet in the chamber of my pistol and I screamed, ‘Nobody move!'”. . .

The store owner said he hated to have to pull a gun but he’s just glad to be alive.

“I regret having to use the weapon,” he said. “Ether instincts kick in or you become a victim. I refuse to become a victim.”

An employee reportedly fired shots during a smash-and-grab attempt Thursday morning.

Police say someone crashed a vehicle into Motor City Pawn Brokers on Gratiot near I-696 just before 5:30 a.m. The vehicle, believed to be a pickup truck, broke through the glass and pushed the metal security screen into the display area of the store.

One suspect entered the damaged area and, once inside, encountered an employee, who discharged two rounds, police say. The suspects then fled in the vehicle.

Police say there are no known injuries.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, a robbery occurred, which led the victim to shoot at the suspect, Alexander Diaz. The victim told deputies he made arrangements through Craigslist to purchase cellphones from Diaz. They met at the Walgreens to conduct the transaction. Diaz then demanded more money from the victim and made verbal threats, insinuating he had a weapon and he was going to rob the victim, the report stated. The victim feared he was going to be robbed after the suspect walked to his car and placed an object in his waistband. The shootings took place on Millers Lane, near South 23rd Street, at about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.  A man and a woman were shot.

It started when witnesses say Tribble walked into a nearby business and asked for a temporary tag for a vehicle he’d recently purchased. He then got into an argument with the business owner, and was asked to leave.

As he was backing his vehicle out of the parking lot, another employee arrived and was walking in Tribble’s direction. That’s when police say Tribble opened fire on the man.

When the business owner saw that his employees were being shot at, he grabbed a handgun and began returning fire. At some point during the shooting, two employees — a man and a woman — were shot several times in the upper body area. . . .

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says the deadly shooting of a man who was chasing and threatening an Uber driver was a classic Stand Your Ground case. . . .

Prior to the shooting, Judd said that Boek had been waiting in the parking lot of the Grove Lounge on US Highway 27 in Dundee while his girlfriend was inside the bar.

Boek saw a woman, who he thought was his girlfriend, be helped into an Uber by another woman and a bartender.

The woman who was put in the Uber was not Boek’s girlfriend.

The Uber driver, Robert Westlake, 38, of Lake Wales, headed westbound on Dundee Road.

Judd said that Westlake is a concealed weapon permit holder and a licensed security guard who recently completed police academy. Westlake had a gun in his car. . . .

Boek was aggressively following the Uber in a Ford F-250 pickup truck. He approached the Hyundai from behind, passed and then pulled in front of it. Boek then stopped in the road in front of the Hyundai.

Westlake stopped the Hyundai. Boek got out of his truck and walked toward the Hyundai, yelling at Westlake that he had a pistol.

Boek continued to approach and Westlake reached into the pocket of the driver door, grabbed his handgun and fired one shot at Boek. . . .

A suspect was shot and killed by a restaurant owner after allegedly burglarizing his business early in Antonito early Saturday morning.

According to a release, the burglary suspect charged into the owner while leaving the business. The owner was armed and fired his gun, hitting the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Byron Garcia-Duran, was later pronounced dead. . . .

Williams says she arrived just before 3 a.m. Labor Day morning to pick up her girlfriend outside of New York New York Pizza in Ybor. She says a group of men was standing in an open parking space off East 7th Avenue. 

Williams says one of the men punched her and another bit her during an unprovoked attack.

“I don’t know if he tackled me or if I went down from the guy putting me down in a headlock,” said Williams.

Williams says she is licensed to carry and feeling threatened, pulled out her gun.

According to Tampa Police, the subject punched Williams after seeing her loaded firearm.

The weapon accidentally discharged during the altercation, hitting her girlfriend, Jasmine Wynne. . . .

Detroit police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that ended with both the victim and the suspect being shot and hospitalized early Wednesday on the city’s east side.

It was just before 1 a.m., on the 14300 block of Lozier, when a 40-year-old man with a gun drawn approached a 55-year-old man and tried to rob him, said Dontae Freeman, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department. The area is north of Mack and west of Chalmers.

The intended robbery victim withdrew his own handgun and the two men shot each other in the struggle. The victim was hit in the buttocks and is in stable condition. The suspect was shot in his back and in his leg and left in stable condition — and in police custody. . . .

The 36-year-old man who shot Wilson has not been charged with a crime.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. as the 36-year-old man pulled into a parking space at an apartment complex.

Wilson, Rice and Wagner walked up to the man, pointed guns at him and stole one of the man’s gun. The group repeatedly punched, kicked and pistol-whipped him while he was on the ground, according to police.

The man pulled out a second gun while he was on the ground and fired several shots at the group. The trio returned fire. One of the bullets hit Wilson, 26, in the chest. He was taken to MetroHealth where he died. . . .

A robber and customer exchanged gunfire Sunday evening during an aggravated robbery at a College Street convenience store.

Beaumont police said officers responded to a call at 5:44 p.m. at Smiles Convenience Store, 6855 College St. There, a suspect described as a black male, wearing all black, a hoodie and bandana, 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, slim build and carrying a silver and black revolver, entered the store.

Police said a customer saw the suspect robbing the clerk at gunpoint, ran to his vehicle and retrieved a firearm. The customer shot at the suspect through the front glass window and into the store. The suspect fired back, then shot the glass out of a west side door to exit the business. . . .

The robbery happened just before 1am Wednesday at the A & A Food Mart Gas Station on Main Street. When officers arrived at the store, they found the clerk bleeding from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Jacksonville police are searching for two men who stabbed a man Thursday in a bank parking lot on Moncrief Road and then fled the scene as the victim shot at them.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at the Bank of America, 5859 Moncrief Road, about 11:15 a.m. and found a man suffering from stab wounds, police said. The man had pulled into the bank parking lot when two unknown men ran up to him and started stabbing him.

Police said the man was able to retrieve a handgun and started shooting. One of the attackers got into a black pickup truck with a woman and struck another vehicle as they drove away, police said. . . .

A Waffle House customer who shot an alleged robber will likely not face charges, police confirmed. . . .

A man, armed with a BB gun, attempted to rob a Waffle House in Villa Rica. But he was the one who ended up getting shot, authorities said.

The suspect entered the restaurant on Ga. 61 around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and pointed his weapon at employees, Villa Rica police said in a Facebook post.

A customer then shot the suspect, who dropped what turned out to be a BB gun and ran away, the post said. . . .

Joe Apel was working in his nearby automotive repair shop, Team 1 Automotive Experts, when he saw a social media post alerting people in the area near his business to be on alert.

“We kind of knew they were looking for people because of tons of cops, helicopter,” he said.

Apel said a few minutes later, two men walked into the lobby.

“They were just a little fidgety, asking weird questions,” he told Petchenik.  “I grabbed my handgun out of the drawer.”

Channel 2 Action News obtained surveillance video that shows Apel pulling his gun and ushering the suspects out the front door.

“I asked the guys several more times to leave and we can make phone calls outside.  He approached me once and started to approach me one more time and that’s when I drew my gun and asked them to leave,” he said.  “It was the last thing in the world I wanted to do.”. . .

A robbery attempt ended in a shootout and two men in the hospital early Tuesday, and the person orchestrating the crime, according to Atlanta police, is a woman who knew both.

The encounter started on Thurmond Street around 1:30 a.m. Investigators said two men and a woman were all in one vehicle and the driver had a stack of cash on him. At some point, the other guy tried to rob the driver, and ended up outside the car, shooting the driver several times. The man behind the wheel, according to police, was armed as well and fired back.  He then drove to a gas station on Joseph E Lowery Boulevard and called 911. . . .

In the security video, you can see Lawrence turn around and try to get a good distance from the men. Police say they believe the two men were attempting to rob the store. Lawrence saw one of the men had a gun. Lawrence pulled his own gun out and told them to leave. He then chased them out the store. . . .

Lawrence says he always carries a gun with him for safety. Usually, the gun would be in his bag in the back of the store, but he hadn’t taken it back there yet. . . .

The man whose vehicle was struck said the suspect suddenly pulled out a gun and started shooting at him. After he was shot in the ankle, the man said he ducked behind his own car. He has a permit-to-carry and he returned fire at the suspect, according to Ernster.

An employee at China Kitchen Restaurant allegedly shot a man who police believe was trying to rob the eatery, according to a statement Friday from the Columbia Police Department. The worker will not be charged, and police are calling the case “self-defense.”

When police arrived on the scene at the Forest Drive restaurant at about 11 p.m. Thursday, they found a man on the ground who had been shot in the upper body, according to the statement. He was wearing all black and a covering over his face.

Employees told police the man entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the register, according to the statement. One employee tried to grab the gun away from the man.

A struggle ensued and another employee shot the burglar, according to police. That other employee was carrying his own gun, police said. . . .

Officers were called at around 9 p.m. Wednesday to the report of a shooting in the 2600 block of North Amidon. They arrived to find 23-year-old José DeLeon dead in the street. 

Lt. Todd Ojile said DeLeon and his 18-year-old stepbrother were leaving an apartment complex in a car and DeLeon nearly struck a pickup that was heading south on Amidon.

“As the truck passed, the vehicle with the 23-year-old male and the 18-year-old male pulled out behind it, sped up, got in front of it and blocked it in the middle of the street,” Ojile said.

He said DeLeon then approached the truck and demanded money from the 39-year-old driver, who refused.

“A short verbal altercation ensued, and the 23-year-old male, who was armed with a golf club at that time, began hitting the truck, smashing out…the back window,” Ojile said.

The man driving the pickup retrieved a handgun from inside the truck and shot DeLeon. . . .

The Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner says two people were attempting to break into the building when the property manager shot at the suspects and killed one of them. . . .

Boseman says shortly before 7 a.m. 2 people attempted to break into the building through the backdoor. “There is an ax, which is inside the door and there are markings on the door, as [if] someone was trying to break-in.”

Boseman tells 7News that’s when the person overseeing the property unlocked the back gate and saw the suspects. He says the individual fired at the 2 men and killed one of them. . . .

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. The Public Information Officer Detective Nikki Carson confirms to 7News no charges have been filed against the person who shot the suspects at this time. . . .

A 34-year-old man is recovering after being shot early Thursday in a shootout with a masked man at a gas station on Detroit’s west side, police said. 

The shooting took place about 12:35 a.m. at the Marathon gas station on the 12700 block of Fenkell.

As the victim walked up to the gas station, he noticed a man in a ski mask. The masked man then pointed a shotgun at him, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

The victim, a concealed pistol license holder, pulled out a gun of his own and fired shots. . . .

Police in Florida say a private security guard fatally shot a man who was trying to rob an arcade.

Cocoa police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said in a news release that 55-year-old Nathaniel Carter was armed and wearing a mask when he arrived at Blue Diamond Arcade early Monday.

She says a security officer confronted Carter, telling him, “don’t do this.” Martinez says gunfire was exchanged and Carter was hit. He ran, but collapsed about 80 feet (24 meters) from the building.

Carter was declared dead at a hospital.

Martinez says the guard has a concealed weapons permit.

Sgt. Doug Levine said that after reviewing video and talking to witnesses, it’s clear that the guard was within legal boundaries to shoot Carter. . . .

Christopher Theodore Mattson, 45, of Thornfield, Mo., allegedly broke into the store at approximately 4:00 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery.

Mattson kicked in the front door, setting off an audible alarm. Once inside, Mattson allegedly damaged some items. Mattson then exited the business.

The store owner, armed with a firearm, confronted Mattson, according to the news release. Mattson reportedly pushed the store owner by the chest, according to the news release.

At that point, the store owner fired the weapon, putting a round into the ground. This apparently calmed Mattson somewhat as he provided no further resistance to the store owner, according to the news release. . . .

According to an arrest report, a man was backing a trailer into his driveway on Sealine Drive at about 11:15 p.m. Friday when he noticed an SUV blocking the road. The man said the SUV driver, later identified as Nicholas W. Pinto, 42, approached him yelling and screaming and had his hand behind his back, so he fired a round from his handgun into the ground, and Pinto walked off.

The drama unfolded at about 7:55 a.m. in the 200 block of Valley Avenue NE in Puyallup, said Police Capt. Ryan Portmann.
