On Dana Loesch’s Relentless: How has support for gun control changed?

Oct 20, 2018 | Featured

Dr. John Lott was on Dana Loesch’s Relentless to discuss the new Gallup Poll on support for gun control. While support for gun control has fallen by 6 percentage points since the immediate aftermath of the Parkland shooting, there has been a general increase over the last 5 or so years. This is a brief summary of Dr. Lott’s argument in his book The War on Guns.

A great many owners of firearms are well aware that is areas with high crime those firearms are a prime target for theft. Near where I used to live in Maryland a 17 year old knifed a blind man to death solely because he heard the man had a handgun that he wanted to steal. A gun store owner was killed on Belair Road in Baltimore by a flash mob attack after he opened his security door to one person, who then allowed nearly a dozen more to enter after which they shot the store owner.

Many property break ins are well publicized. This is one reason the numbers of firearms owners will never report this fact. Another is the media bias and the leftist rhetoric. Although I am a very strong second amendment supporter, a licensed concealed carrier, and very supportive of the NRA I keep a low profile. The reason is that if someone tried to confront me, the result of such an act cannot be pleasant.

As happens hundreds of thousands of times per year, as a concealed carrier I would assist a policeman in need, but the political climate in some areas damps this. Such an area is Maryland where my permit is not honored. I avoid traveling through, or going to Maryland to as great an extent as possible.

I fully support the National Reciprocity Act, it protects the innocent.
I fully support nationwide constitutional carry, it’s the LAW.
I fully support repeal of the Hughes Amendment, it’s help destroy US sourcing of firearms to the US military. All US Military small arms are provided by foreign owned companies.
