Congressman Louie Gohmert cites CPRC research on the false positive problem with the NICS background check system

Jan 8, 2018 | Featured

Congressmen Louie Gohmert gave a talk on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to discuss the false positive rate for NICS background checks.  Out of 73,000 initial denials in 2010, there were only 42 cases referred for prosecution and just 13 convictions.  The one correction that we would make is that this low level of prosecutions and convictions has been true across administrations from Clinton to Bush to Obama.  When Gohmert mentioned the “five checks” he actually meant the five stages of review to double check the accuracy of the denials.

Why didn’t he cite more recent numbers? Has USG stopped providing the figures?
