I’m further excited to seeing the current administration at least -considering- national reciprocity. Most interesting to me is the allowance for a concealed carry exception to the GFSZA. My state has mirror laws, to it, so one would likely get arrested under those rather than the federal guidelines, but I digress. Most of the local P.D., and SO Have stated they not only don’t enforce that law unless you are being a fucking moron, but some actively break it themselves. These guys have kids, and families, and often remark they’d rather get a call for a defensive gun use, than to an offensive one.

I live in a blue state as well, but it is only blue because it has one or two major urban areas where most of the population lives, and they are usually toxic transplants from crappy crime infested blue states bent on making my state as equally crappy as the one they just left. the rest of the state is very rural and very conservative. I carry everywhere, sometimes open, sometimes concealed. I’ve never had a cop even so much as bat an eyelash at it. The “tourist transplants” though, I’ve been actively harassed by. Go figure.

It appears that Mr. Williams case was dismissed and his record cleared in December 2015. If so, there is still no case where someone has been found guilty of committing a crime with a permitted concealed handgun on a campus where they were allowed to carry. If that case wasn’t dismissed in December 2015, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. https://crimeresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/ROA-Williams-Delton.pdf

Just to clarify the details: The incident happen on Shaw Lane, that is a road cross the middle of the campus. The entire street is inside the main campus of Michigan State University (my alma mater) but the road itself may be considered public place, not the “campus” we usually mean.

By the way, I am a concealed carry permit holder, a senior college professor and an IDPA competitor of Sharpshooter class, maybe a rare combination. When anti-gunners say civilians don’t have the training, they are clueless. Gun owners like me spend more time and more ammo (think about 10,000 round/year) in training than most of police officers. However, I am not allowed to carry on campus (yet) . The state is blue.

This is interesting, but in the piece that we have in the Kansas City Star we were talking about crimes committed by concealed handgun permit holders on college campuses where they were allowed to carry. This case, while it did involve a permit holder, occurred at another location outside of university property. Since the debate is over concealed handguns on college campuses, if you have any cases where a permit holder committed any type of crime at a university where they are allowed to carry, I would be very interested in hearing of it.

As a professor myself, I wish People’s Republic of Illinois allows campus carry.

Dr. Lott apparently doesn’t know a case of a CC permit holding student (Delton Williams of Michigan State University, 2015) brandished a gun on campus over road rage. The rare isolated incident is in no way contradicting Lott’s conclusion, but did happen.
