CPRC’s research at Fox News: Concealed handgun permits surging, blacks, women lead growth

Fox News has an article this morning on our new study regarding concealed handgun permits.  They even put together the above video for our news release.

Concealed handgun permits in the United States soared by 1.83 million since last July, setting a record for the fourth consecutive year, according to an analysis released Thursday.

At the Wall Street Journal: Women & Minorities Bear Arms: They are fueling growth in concealed carry permits

Dr. John Lott has a new op-ed at the Wall Street Journal:

Each year brings a new record increase in the number of concealed handgun permits. The rate of growth in permits among women and minorities has far outpaced growth among white men. The data paint a picture of incredibly law-abiding permit holders, the vast majority living outside America’s insular media capitals.

At The Hill: Media shows its true colors on guns at women’s march

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at The Hill newspaper on how the media covered this past weekend’s Women’s March.  Here is the beginning of the piece:

Gun control advocates keep claiming that guns are only used to kill people and that people should just rely on the police to protect them.

Going from a reported 2.6 million who attended the march in January to “hundreds” is quite the comedown.  One would think that drop in crowd size would be a headline is some of the stories.  But if you were looking for such comments in any of the news stories, you would be greatly disappointed.…

At The Hill: The false claims behind the Women’s March on the NRA

Dr. John Lott has a new op-ed at The Hill newspaper about false statements being made by the organizers of the Women’s March on the NRA today and the mainstream media.  The piece starts this way:

The Women’s March protest today at NRA headquarters was partially sparked by false allegations that the organization hasn’t defended Philando Castile — an African American and concealed handgun permit holder shot by Minnesota police officer Jeronimo Yanez.

12.3% of Americans sometimes carry handguns, 5.4% of Americans carry most or all the time, & 2.4% carry all the time

One of the big questions about concealed carry is how frequently permit holders carry their guns.  At least 6.5% of the adult population has a concealed handgun permit, but with 14 states allowing people to carry without a permit, it is hard to know how many people actually carry.  But a new Pew Research Center Survey makes it possible to estimate the percentage of the adult population in the US carries guns with them and how frequently they carry them, though their number would include both concealed and open carry.  …

At Fox News: “A Women’s March on the NRA – but do they represent a woman’s view on guns?”

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at Fox News about the claim that there is a “women’s view” on guns.

Is there a women’s view on guns? The organizers of the massive Women’s March — which took place the day after President Trump’s inauguration — are holding a protest against the National Rifle Association on Friday.
