Notes on the James Holmes Batman Movie Theater Shooting case: Maximize killing and Deterrence matters for these mass killers

This past week we finally got a look at the diary of the Batman movie theater killer, James Holmes, and it was clear that he was considering both attacking an airport and a movie theater.  But he turned down the airport option because he was concerned about their “substantial security.”  While Holmes’ diary was no where near as detailed as Elliot Rodger’s, the Santa Barbara killer from last year, it still shows that he was concerned about avoiding people who might stop his attack.…

CPRC at Fox News: Baltimore’s soaring murder rate shows that police matter

In an article on the soaring murder rate in Baltimore, Fox News quoted John Lott as saying:

“In case people ever needed a reminder, the increase in Baltimore’s murder rate shows how important police are,” John Lott, president of Crime Prevention Research Centerand a Fox News contributor said. “As police are worried about being called criminals themselves, the sudden increase stands in sharp contrast to how murder rates are changing in the rest of the country.” .

Michael Bloomberg at Columbia University

CPRC at Fox News: “‘Covering Guns’: Columbia University’s ‘workshop’ for journalists far from objective”

John Lott’s piece at Fox News starts this way:

Columbia University would never sponsor an event funded by the National Rifle Association. What’s more, the idea would seem especially outlandish if most of the speakers at the event were NRA supporters.

Yet, gun control advocate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his gun control group Everytown are now funding a two-day workshop in Phoenix on Friday and Saturday sponsored by Columbia University’s Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma.

CPRC in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: “Twisting statistics to smear cops”

John Lott’s latest piece at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review starts this way:

False claims about police brutality are poisoning race relations.

This feeling of “unfairness,” as President Obama noted in his weekly address on May 16, is “fuel(ing) the kind of unrest that we’ve seen in places like Baltimore, Ferguson and New York.”

The riots it incites threaten people’s lives and destroy businesses.

Georgia Permit Holder Uses Gun to Stop Carjacking

The fact that the police shook the permit holder’s hand says it all.  Apparently this is the second time that the permit holder has used his gun in self defense.  As the TV anchorwoman says, the permit holder certainly doesn’t plan on becoming a victim any time soon.  In this case the permit holder was black and the criminal was white.  …
