90 days Google Trends Concealed Carry

UPDATED: The Impact of Terrorist Attacks on Interest in Concealed Carry after Oregon, Paris, and San Bernardino mass public shootings, Obama’s executive orders have no effect

Here are a couple simple graphs using Google Trends to show web searches for the term “concealed carry.”  After each of these three terrorist attacks over the last 90 days, you can see a sudden increase in interest for concealed carry.  With each attack, the size of the increase in interest has gotten larger.…

Mass public shooting in Saudi Arabia leaves five dead, 9 injured at a Shia meeting hall

A mass public shooting in Saudi Arabia left 5 dead and 9 injured.  From the Guardian newspaper:

A gunman shot and killed five people in an Islamic State-claimed attack on a Shia meeting hall in Saudi Arabia before being shot dead by police, said Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV.

Friday’s deadly assault will raise tensions in the kingdom’s largely Shia eastern province, a focus of the Sunni militants who view them as apostates worthy of death.

Congressional Research Service claims that Mass Public Shootings have been increasing, but it fails to provide evidence that this increase is statistically significant

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) has just released a new report titled: CRS Mass Murder with Firearms Incidents and Victims 1999-2013.  USA Today’s headline provides a typical reaction: “Report: Mass public shootings on rise.”  While the report points to increases in the number of shooting incidents over this period of time, the CRS does not discuss whether any of these results are statistically significant.  …

Washington Post’s misleading article on “mass shootings” — falsely claiming “204 mass shootings” when virtually none of these cases qualify for the normal definition of “mass,” UPDATED: Response from Washington Post

Christopher Ingraham at the Washington Post has another article on guns.   Unfortunately, Ingraham explicitly ignores the FBI’s definition on mass shootings.  The cases he ends up with involve very few murders and are heavily biased to include gang and other criminal activity.  Curbing gang violence is important, and it could be done pretty simply: stop enforcing the laws or legalize drugs.  …
