Dr. Lott’s piece at Fox News starts this way:

In Orlando on Thursday, President Obama again called on Congress to do something about these mass public shootings.  But the dirty secret about the four different bills that the Senate will vote on Monday is that everyone knows that none of them would have stopped the Orlando massacre.

A machine gun that “it’s nearly impossible to prevent its production”

Gun control advocates don’t seem to realize how gun control laws primarily prevent law-abiding citizens, not criminals from getting guns.  It isn’t just an issue of smuggling guns.  It is also a question of being able to produce them, even machine guns.  Israel can’t stop domestic terrorists from making their own machine guns.

Obama and Bloomberg

President Obama and Michael Bloomberg meet in White House to discuss the Executive Actions Obama is Planning

President Obama’s meeting with other gun control advocates indicates that executive action on gun control is likely imminent.  From The Hill newspaper:

. . . Obama huddled with Bloomberg “as part of the administration’s continuing push to address gun violence in America,” the White House said in a statement.
“The two discussed ways to keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have access to them and what more could be done at the state and local level to help address gun violence in America,” the White House added.

CPRC puts in Amicus brief in 9th Circuit case fighting to end California’s 10-day waiting period for those who already own guns

In response to claims made before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the CPRC has pointed to that there is no evidence showing that background checks or waiting periods reduce any type of violent crime or total suicides. The case before the court is more specific than that because the claim is that there is a benefit to a 10-day waiting period for those who already lawfully possess a firearm as confirmed in the Automated Firearms System, possess a valid Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license, or who possess a valid Certificate of Eligibility (COE).…

In little noticed change, Obama administration collecting data on race, ethnicity of gun buyers

From the Washington Times:

With little fanfare, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in 2012 amended its Form 4473 — the transactional record the government requires gun purchasers and sellers to fill out when buying a firearm — to identify buyers as either Hispanic, Latino or not. Then a buyer must check his or her race: Indian, Asian, black, Pacific Islander or white.

Obama renews call for more gun control

On the one-year anniversary of the Navy Yard shooting, President Obama “called on Americans to renew the push for gun-control legislation”:

“One year ago, 12 Americans went to work to protect and strengthen the country they loved,” Obama said. “Today, we must do the same — rejecting atrocities like these as the new normal and renewing our call for common-sense reforms that respect our traditions while reducing the gun violence that shatters too many American families every day.” .

CPRC on Fox News to discuss Chicago’s policing policies and restrictions on poor people being able to defend themselves

Appearance: Saturday, April 26th, 9:33 to 9:37 PM. Here is a rough transcript.

Judge Jeanine: With me now, political commentator, author of seven books [actually eight] including More Guns, Less Crime, John Lott. Okay. More Guns, Less Crime. That is counter intuitive. What does that mean?

Lott: Just as you can deter criminals with higher arrest rates or conviction rates, the fact that victims can defend themselves can also deter criminals.
