Is Politifact really the organization that should be fact checking Facebook on gun related facts?

If gun control advocates were more confident with their arguments, presumably they wouldn’t have to so grossly exaggerate their numbers.  On December 27th, 2016 Politifact evaluated this claim that there are 7 children a day who die from guns, and Politifact’s Chris Nichols concluded that this claim by Congresswoman Jackie Speier that “more than seven children PER DAY have died from gun violence” was “mostly true.”

Politifact relies on a quote from the Brady Campaign’s website: “Every day, 7 children and teens die from gun violence.” The website notes that it crunched CDC data for children and young people through age 19.…

States with larger percent black populations do seem to be seeing larger percent increases in background checks for guns

With gun sales continuing to increase after the November 8th general election, many have pointed to the increase in gun sales to blacks, though the evidence has been anecdotal.  NBC News contacted gun storeowners who reported seeing up to four times as many black and minority customers.  The National African-American Gun Association saw a 7% increase in members just over the Thanksgiving weekend.…

CPRC’s Research Discussed in the Washington Times: “Study upends narrative of racist white officers”

This article appeared on Monday, December 26, 2016:

Despite an intense national focus on high-profile police shootings involving white officers and black men, a new study shows that white officers are not statistically more likely to shoot and kill a black suspect.

Among a sample of 2,699 fatal police killings between 2013 and 2015, the study found that the odds of a black suspect being killed by a black police officer were consistently greater than the odds of a black suspect getting killed by a white officer.

CPRC at National Review: “Hollywood’s Gun-Control Dud”

Dr. John Lott has a new piece at National Review on what the movie Miss Sloane and the election results tell us about where the gun debate stands.  The piece starts this way:

Miss Sloane, a highly anticipated movie demonizing the NRA and calling for gun control, has bombed. The movie succeeded only in emphasizing the top-down nature of the gun-control campaign and how little intensity there is for more regulations.

Concealed Carry Permit Holders Getting Training Even When It Isn’t Required

While adopting Constitutional Carry in Idaho means that training is no longer mandated by state law, the Idaho Statesman has some interviews that show that even people who are carrying without a permit still feel the need to get training.  However, the benefit of not having the formal regulations on training means that the cost of training has probably gone down, and it can be done when it is most convenient.  …

Five Defensive Gun Uses with Permitted Concealed Handguns over just four days, one example of media bias

The fourth case below provides and example of one of the very few defensive gun use cases that gets picked up by other media around the country.  It is also an example of media bias in terms of how these cases are covered as the reason it got extensive media coverage was because a bystander was wounded in the exchange.  …
